The Snooker Thread (Part 1)

Quite a few of the old guard after falling at the penultimate qualifying stage - Jimmy White, Tony Drago, James Wattana, Anthony Hamilton & Dominic Dale. Michael Judge beaten as well.

Final round of qualifiers is as follows:

Matthew Stevens v Marcus Campbell

Steve Davis v Adrian Gunnell
Fergal O’Brien v Alan McManus
Liang Wenbo v Rod Lawler
Nigel Bond v Martin Gould
Joe Swail v Ken Doherty

Stephen Lee v Mike Dunn
Graeme Dott v Jimmy Michie

Fergal O’Brien and Steve Davis both had 10-4 wins to qualify. Matthew Stevens is level at 7-7 at the moment. Doherty plays Swail tomorrow.

Stevens gone to a deciding frame.

Good result for O’Brien. Eire will have at least one representative at the Crucible.

Now old Milo as we all know 'as got loads of dapper suits

Doherty running away with it. Leading 8-1.

Best of luck to Kilkenny man Davy Morris in his quest to reach the crucible for the first time

Didn’t make it unfortuneately, lost 10-6. Good to see Doherty back in the big time even if its only for a whort while. Draw for the first round is on Thursday.

World Championship Draw

John Higgins v Barry Hawkins
Mark King v Steve Davis
Neil Robertson v Fergal O’Brien
Marco Fu v Martin Gould

Ali Carter v Jamie Cope
Joe Perry v Michael Holt
Ding Junhui v Stuart Pettman
Shaun Murphy v Gerrard Greene

Stephen Maguire v Stephen Lee
Peter Ebdon v Graeme Dott
Mark Allen v Tom Ford
Ryan Day v Mark Davis

Mark Selby v Ken Doherty
Stephen Hendry v Anda Zhang
Mark Williams v Marcus Campbell
Ronnie O’Sullivan v Liang Wenbo

Thats a cracking draw for Ali Carter.

I imagine the organisers will be a bit worried that the Ebdon v Dott tie will hold up the rest of the championship. They’ll be doing well to finish that one inside the first week.

All joking aside, that’s totally true. The Final between them was madness.

Selby, Williams, Hendry and O’Sullivan all in the one quarter of the draw.

I have always supported Doherty - always found him a very much alright sort but would love to see Selby progress as well as he is a fantatic player and superb entertainment.

Hopefully Ebdon hammers the shit out of that little pencil Dott - hate that cunt.

Hopefully both of them just drop out/dead before it starts.

I love the tactical frames actually. But only when they are not the norm. If every frame was like that snooker would be finished. 1/2 long drawn out frames per match is perfect.

I’m possibly Peter Ebdon’s biggest and only fan aswell. You have to admire someone who still reaches the pinnacle despite not having the natural, God-given talent to do so.

Matthew Stevens failed to make it through I see.

A shame.

I don’t have to admire anything bro B)

Stevens will hardly ever win it now. His career has gone downhill quicker than Lindsay Vonn and her sexy ass. Selby had a real train crash of a championship last year, but I fancy him to get back on the rails this year. The script has been writ-ten, it’s up to him to follow it. The Ranelagh man will be really up against it.

The World Championship starts today.

Ah, lovely.

I,d fancy Higgins to win this, or failing that Neil Robertson.

Selby for me.

If he beats Doherty I’d love to see him win it. He’s a clas player and excellent entertainment.

Would also love to see Ronnie turn on the style for the two weeks. He has a tough draw, maybe Williams in the second round if he gets through the first round against the other Chinese lad.

Williams showing signs of returning to his old self as well.
