The Snooker Thread (Part 1)

Number 16 seed Stephen Maguire is in big trouble, he trails compatriot Anthony McGill 8-4. John Higgins leads Robert Milkins 8-4.

Earlier on there were victories for Marco Fu and Graeme Dott.

Maguire has won two on the spin but trails McGill 9-7. One mistake could be fatal for the #16 seed.

Higgins won 10-5

9-9 now, Maguire has played some terrific snooker over the last four frames as his opponent has melted, can only see one winner now, but you never know at The Crucible.

A superb 122 break from McGill stops the Maguire charge and sets up a tie with defending champion Mark Selby in the second round.

Maguire for all the talent he has, has seriously under achieved. If he produced any of the form in the first session that he did when he found himself 5-9 down he’d have won comfortably enough. Credit to McGill for the steel and ability he showed to win the last frame. I do think Selby will beat him easily enough next round.

Another big comeback happening. Matthew Selt has come from 9-4 down to 9-8 against Barry Hawkins, he has knocked in two centuries during the run.
On the other table Stuart Bingham and Robbie Williams are locked at 4-4.

Another century from Selt levels it at 9-9, the man is on fire. We have another deciding frame.

Like Kurt Maflin and Stephen Maguire, Selt’s heroic comeback falls at the last hurdle. Hawkins wins 10-9.

Mark Davis leads Ding 4-3 at the end of their first session. Davis had led 4-0

Stuart Bingham really should have this game in the bag, but Robbie Williams is hanging in there and is 9-7 down in a very scrappy game. I haven’t seen much of Williams this season and am quite alarmed at how bald the likeable Scouser has become, I haven’t seen a pate ths big and shiney at The Crucible since Willie Thorne was in his pomp.

Ali Carter leads Alan McManus 5-3 on the other table.

Bingham won 10-7. Carter leads 6-3, would be tremendous to see the Captain have a deep run this year.

Ding had potted 12 reds with blacks and played for the blue off the 13th red before realising the error of his ways.

Ding 10-7 Davis

Just reading reports that Ronnie O’Sullivan isn’t wearing any shoes while playing his first round match. Scruffy bastard. Probably one of these cunts who takes his shoes off on aeroplanes too. Scumbag.

Probably walked to the arena in a pair of tackies with his suit like a Ranelagh dwelling roaster.
