The Sport of Kings & Equine Matters 🐐

I hear Charles Burns was far from impressed with young JGM Murphy after his win in Thurles on a 50/1 shot from the yard. Apparently he was being lined up for a serious punt in Limerick over the holidays but yesterdays win put paid to that.

Thats gas. Couldnt believe the price on that when I saw it. Had been given a tip for the second fav in that race but when I saw the Burns horse coming in at that price something wasn’t adding up.

Ya, one of the lads had been taking to the jockey lined up to ride him in Limerick during the week and he told him to keep an eye for that horse over the xmas becuase he was expected to win in Limerick at a good price.

Burns always lands one big gamble in Limerick over the chirstmas. A sort of Christmas bonus for the yard staff. I’m sure none of them are too impressed!

Solowhit losing at 1-3 probably made up for it all the same.

Hanging with Hector tonight is about Hector following Aidan O’Brien around for the Breeders Cup back at the end of October. Usually can’t stand Hector but its rare enough that O’Brien allows any media to follow him around so it should be interesting viewing. RTE1 at 9.25 tonight.

Well lads…Huge day of racing tomorrow with the bones of a dozen meetings…Might head to limerick myself although the thought of my two favourite horses in training going neck and neck in the King george might keep me home…I have the feeling Voy Pos could well win the king george…Definately worth a bet at 7/2…Punjabi should win the christmas hurdle…

Had wins on Harchi and Kauto yesterday but went to Leopardstown today and couldn’t buy a winner. Quel Esprit in the last saved me and seemingly lots of others from a total disaster of a day.

Was there many at leopardstown sledge…Went to limerick myself ysterday and it was busy but not as busy as other years gone by, recession probably putting people off…Good day had there yesterday…Landed 4 winners…Nearly all favourites won…

Was there myself Monday. Had a very good day. 4 winners in Limerick and 1 in Kempton. Killenaule Boy was great value at 4/1, having had his past form franked in both Limerick and Leopardstown in earlier races.

Could have had an even better day but couldn’t bring myself to back Barry Connell in the last on Western Gael. To be fair to him he buys good horses.

Was told last night to back nine-o today but never bothered and he went and won at 14/1

Will probably head in again tomorrow and definitely on Monday.

I haven’t been to the Christmas meeting at Leop before, but people who have said the crowd was down on previous years. I’d say there were around 20,000 there. Pity really, the cold winter mornings are great for sport. Can’t stand the rain myself but don’t mind the cold at all.

Good win for Sublimity there, Sizing Europe was disappointing. Ted Walsh fair fuming at Ladbrokes for not rating him highly enough for the Champion Hurdle “ah they’re always at that across the water…”

I’m after being struck down with the flu and can’t stir. Stuck in bed and can’t watch the racing cause there watching something else. Had planned to hit Limerick today but I’m fooked.

Next stop will be Tramore on New Years day. Any of the wexicans ever venture over to it? Big crowds?

feel you pain runt… struck down with it myslef for the last week. I have been watching the racing though on rte.ie/live today.

It’s some dose alright. Supposed to be going to a wedding tomorrow too.

Whats Tramore like New Years Day? I know it’s a small tight track but have never been down.

Tramore’s shite. I am spending NYE in Wicklow I think, but still wouldn’t be tempted to spend New Year’s Day at Tramore. Any declarations? I’d imagine it’s pigs racing.

It will be ok racing, the Wilf Dooley Chase normally attracts a few good sorts. Not a bad way to pass new years day if you are in the area.

No declarations till Wednesday. My own “pig” is entered so that’s why I’m heading down.

Make sure to let us know whether or not to back said pig.

I couldn’t confidently tell anyone to back him. He’s let us down a few times already over hurdles. The race Thursday is just to give him a run really as we’ve been trying to get into a beginners chase for the past 2 months but keeps getting balloted out. He’ll be trying and is off a nice low mark, produced his best run in Tramore previously but still wouldn’t be gone on our chances.

Feel free to name said pig runt.

Sitting the other side of the world dying for a bit of christmas gambling… infuriating so it is.
