I was there. It was a snakey belt. Dempsey was lording it and Na Piarsaigh were well on top at the time.
Na Piarsaigh went baldy headed for goals when they were on top with the wind that night, Downes hit the angle of the post and the crossbar with a shot that would have been one of the best goals i’d seen live.
Portumna were just cuter on the day, they played the wind perfectly, Na Piarsaigh had oceans more than them and fought like fuck, they probably needed to lose that one to learn from it.
So after 8 seasons to finally cement a starting place in 2014, TJ had a dip in form in 2016 and 17. That’s essentially 10 seasons out of 14 where he wasn’t up to a whole lot and 4 seasons where he’s been very good.
TJ had a very good final in 2010 but was surprisingly taken off before a lot of other big underperforming names. I don’t think himself or Cody saw eye to eye for a number of years.
Is TJ Reid ever injured? He hurls all year most years but never seems to be injured or needs resting or anything. League, championship, club then repeat
He gets his strength and hardiness instilled from his Limerick bird. What belts he gets on the field pale in comparison to what he likely gets at home if he oversteps the mark
Joe canning is just a much much better player than Seamus. Joe is incredibly clutch. Has Seamus ever stuck over the winner in a big game? Or saved tipp from defeat with a last gasp score? Some sideline by joe v Clare in 2018.
How many goals does Callanan have to score to prove his worth to you. Seamie’s performance in 15 will go down as a greater performance under pressure than Joe has ever done, albeit on the losing side. He has been nominated 4 times for HOTY, and should have at least 2 gongs, if not more.
Having said that, both very hard to separate, honestly can’t choose between either. The two best forwards I’ve seen since DJ.
