After Ritchie Hogan TJ was the best attacking option Brian Cody ever had. The likes of Power, Brennan, Taggy or the Comefords of the world were good but TJ a true great.
Callanan from Tipp was nowhere on that level, fine hurler with an eye for goal but thatās about it. The stuff that was going on inside and outside the Tipp camp that time says it all really
You couldnāt really classify TJ as a prolific scorer from play like Joe or Seamie when it gets down to the business end.
2019 in the three knock out matches in Croke Park, cumulatively he scored 0-2 from play. Scoreless in quarter final against Cork and 0-1 from play in both semi final and final against Limerick and Tipperary.
In 2018, 0-1 from play in quarter final defeat to Limerick.
2017, Kilkenny had their shortest summer since 1996, losing to Waterford in a qualifier. TJ scored 1-1 from play there.
In 2016 scoreless from play in semi final draw against Waterford, 0ā1 from play in replay and scoreless in final hammering to Tipperary.
Was there not some stage where TJ ended up playing way out the field for KK in the middle of games and he looked pretty ordinary? 2ā16, 2ā17 maybe? I recall a few games where he popped up quite a bit in the half back/midfield area and hit some woeful ball into where he should have been positioned. Has since resumed being God-like up front of course.
