That was an extremely impressive mental response from Zverev, thoroughly deserved victory.
Zverev did well to keep it together and play some great stuff in that 3rd set.
Usually the tennis seasons tends to peter out after the US Open but there have some brilliant matches in the past few weeks.
The Australian Open could be a bloodbath. You’ll have the likes of Murray, Cilic and Del Potro and a few others being unseeded in the draw and extremely dangerous. The next gen are stepping up now. I think it will be a slam absolutely riddled with shocks.
Thiem-Berrettini should be a good game too.
Thiem is in great form and captured the China Open last week after defeating Tsitsipas in the final. He is arguably the best returner of serve in the game right now.
Theim battling to stay in this. 5-4 down and a set down
Berritini wins in sets.
Great year for Berrettini, he’s now poised for the ATP finals if he can keep it going. He reminds me an awful lot of Juan Martin Del Potro.
Thiem was very unlucky to lose out in that game but Berrettini played the big points better.
Medvedev serving out the match but faces 3 break points here.
Tsitsipas breaks back. 5-5 in the second set.
Medvedev breaks straight back and will serve out for the match again.
Medvedev takes it 7-6, 7-5.
Medvedev’s form is scary, his third Masters 1000s final in successsion to add to his US Open final. His form on hard courts arguably makes him favourite for the Australian Open in the new year.
It will be interesting to see how his form can translate onto clay and grass next year.
He has made the final without dropping a set and is honing in on the world no 3 spot, I wouldn’t be surprised if he is world no 1 by the close of Wimbledon next year.
Zverev takes the opening set in the other semi in under half an hour.
He has continued on from where he has left off against Federer, his service is such a weapon when he’s in this form, so many free points on offer for him.
Zverev in straight sets.
Superb serving performance from him.
81% first serves in, 11 aces, 0 break points faced and just 7 points conceded on his serve.
Medvedev is a machine. Zevrev hands him the first set by serving his first 2 doubles faults.
Another mental collapse by Zverev at the start of the second 40-0 up and loses the game.
Phenomenal display from Medvedev.
That’s a scary performance from Medvedev.
He has to be favourite for Australia right now, he’s getting better and better.
What a display from Medvedev. This guy is the biggest threat in tennis. Expect him to win a slam or 2 next year.
Definitely, I can see him stopping Djokovic reaching 20. Hard courts are Djokovic’s bread and butter and this guy is looking near unbeatable on hard and getting better and better.
Andy Murray won the Antwerp Open today, beating Stan Wawrinka in 3 sets.
