It will be the final set!

A 26 minute first set, closed off by a 22 minute final set.

Nadal looked really, really good out there today.

Tsitispas has been hugely impressive here, if he can bring this form to Djokovic in a potential semi final then he could cause him bother.

Zverev two sets to one down and a break down in the 4th against Italian wonderkid Jannik Sinner.

Sinner beats Zverev in 4. He becomes the first player to reach the French Open quarter finals on his debut even since the Rafa Nadal in 2005.

He faces Rafa next in the quarters.

Gaston has taken the third set against Thiem, Thiem leads 2 sets to 1.

The little man is a bag full of tricks.

Gaston has the break in the fourth. He has a drained looking Thiem driven around the bend here.

Deciding set for Thiem here.

He looks quite weary.

Gaston is tremendous entertainment.

Very Fognini/Santoro like.

Gaston has collapsed.

Thiem will serve for the set and match.

My word. Gaston saves match point with a remarkable winner.

Thiem through in a 3 and a half hour battle, his ability to grind through these games is impressive.

Schwartzman will ask more questions of him in the quarters.

The first two quarters are:

Nadal vs Sinner
Thiem vs Schwartzman

Brilliant atmosphere in the Chatrier

Nadal vs Sinner looks a cracker of a match. Still expect Nadal to win in 3 sets.

Tsitsipas really seems to have sparked into life after nearly being dumped out in the opening round.

2 sets and a break up against Dimitrov which means he is likely to face Rublev in the quarter, should be a cracker of a match.

3 of the QFs now confirmed.

Nadal v Sinner
Thiem v Schwartzman
Tsitsipas v Rublev

Shadow boxing really until the semi finals. Don’t think Nadal has had to face a player in the Top 100 yet and this Italian kid he has in the quarters is ranked 75.

Djokovic like Nadal hasn’t dropped more than 4 games in any set in the tournament

Probably be Thiem and Tsitsipas making up the semi final line up.

Nadal has been lucky in that Nishikori and Zverev fell before they were scheduled. Djokovic too with Medvedev out of the way.

Thiema also had Wawrink fall but Gaston caused him plenty of problems. Thiem doesn’t look at it, he beat Ruud in straight sets but really struggled in the first set and looked weary against Gaston.

Schwartzmann has the game to beat Thiem if he’s not at it. The US hardcourt season and the emotional rollercoaster of winning his first Grand Slam at Flushing and the epic comeback in the final has possibly taken a lot out of Thiem.

Definitely, Schwartzman is as durable as they come and he also has the ability to cause Nadal big problems in a semi final.

Nadal was in big bother before a shower intervened three of four years ago at RG.

These are not favourable conditions for Nadal on clay but he has been playing well so far.
