5 break points pissed away from Shapovalov there. He’s handed them back to Djokovic really, this game is there for the taking if he ups his game.
He breaks.
Still on serve.
My mistake sorry.
Shapovalov
Shapovalov is a beaten docket here. So mentally weak
Shapovalov at the forefront of the New New Gen, as weak mentally as the New Gen of Thiem, Zverev, Tsitsipas and Medvedev.
Shapovalov has had the better really of the first two sets but has failed to capitalise on all bar one of his break points and lost pretty much all the big points.
Djokovic’s poor sportsmanship evident yet again on set point there. A large part of the reason why he gets so much grief from crowds everywhere he goes in the world.
Djokovic will stroll through this set now.
He’s been way off it today. Will need to up it against Berrettini.
Shapovalov can’t convert break points.
That’s what characterises the step up from promise and potential to winning Grand Slams - taking your chances on the big points and converting. It’s an affliction for all these young guns.
Shapovalov shits himself on all the big points.
That was a 5/10 Djokovic performance.
Agreed if Djokovic performed higher Shapovalov wouldn’t have got more 2 games a set.
Berrettini will need the performance of his life. He has a big serve, strong forehand and ground strokes. His backhand is very suspect though. He’s played well all tournament and won Queens as well so he’s clearly playing well on grass. There would be a suspicion that he’s really benefited from a favourable draw. He didn’t have to face any of the three players seeded higher than him - Medvedev, Zverev or Federer and the only two seeded players he faced were Hurkacz (14) and Auger-Aliassame (16).
He was very good at RG too. Brought the best out of Djokovic in their meeting and the interruption with the crowd having to leave impacted his momentum in that game.
Grass should be more favourable to him. If Djokovic played like he did today against Berrettini he would have been in big bother, now the thing is Djokovic probably had gears in him today he could find if he needed to but I think grass is arguably Djokovic’s least favourite surface. Federer really should have beaten him two years ago, he generally finds it tougher to win these matches. He’s shaded 5 set epics with Nadal and Federer in 2018 and 2019. He’s been beaten by Murray here before.
I think the way Berrettini is playing will really put Djokovic on the back foot if he is playing his A game. If Berrettini can plays as well as he did at RG against Djokovic then the quicker speed of the grass court should benefit Berrettini.
Obviously Djokovic is the strong favourite but I think Berrettini is the first player he has faced in this tournament who has the game to potentially beat him. He reminds me so much of Del Potro with that forehand.
Djokovic has been scratchy enough all tournament from losing first set of the tournament to Draper to patchy performances against Kudla, Garin and today against Shapovalov. Quite possibly an element of pacing himself and an extra gear or two still there.
Berrettini will need a shoot the lights out serving performance to win. Something like Krajicek against Sampras in 1996, the only defeat Sampras suffered across the 8 Championships from 1993 to 2000.
Greet to have a full house for the women’s final
Oh @Cheasty will be having a fit seeing people gathering in such numbers. You’ll be sorry.
Good to see Pliskova making it more a match in the second
anyone who still believes in that covid shite can stay and home and hide under the bed for the rest of their lives if they want, normal people have had enough and are getting on with it now
