Tom Ryan says Donal OâGradyâs shock departure from the Limerick hotseat is âa disasterâ.
OâGrady quit his role as co-manager and coach on Sunday night, throwing the defending championsâ Munster championship preparations into turmoil.
Former Treaty County manager Ryan has had no shortage of run-ins with Limerick County Board in the past and he isnât slow in laying the blame for recent developments at their door:
âItâs a disaster,â he states in The Irish Examiner. "The rumour mill was strong and this was going on for the last couple of weeks. At the same time, nobody expected this. It has to be a total breakdown of communications.
"When there was an open discussion at a County Board meeting about the way the team were playing there were problems. That was a first in Limerick, delegates actually openly questioning the tactics.
"The fact they were Munster champions, people read a lot into that and then the appointment of Donal OâGrady was clouded in controversy as well. Everyone expected Ger Cunningham to bring it a bit of freshness, OâGradyâs style doesnât suit Limerick and that was obvious from before.
"Limerick were under pressure not having their Na Piarsaigh players for the early part of the league. Galway were the same with their Portumna men but they were able to struggle through.
"Nobody expected John Allen to go but that was sloppy as well because it went on for two or three weeks without a decision.
"The elephant in the room right now is who is calling these shots? There has to be a sit-down involving everybody in Limerick because we canât continue to do our business like this.
âCork have had their problems and other counties have too, but Limerick are renowned for this.â
I never heard JP referred to as the elephant in the room before?
Tom has an eats, shoots and leaves moment. He never disappoints when he shares his insights with the media at large.
Tom is back with a bang and loses no chance to stick it to the CB. Good man Tom but you will never be Limerick manager again. Iâd love to know who he thinks should be the man though.
Still a lot of talk about PJâs money creating too much power for the chosen ones.
The only man Tom thinks is capable of managing Limerick is himself.
As usual, he blowholes about whatâs wrong, whoâs to blame but offers no solution to fuck-all other than âa big sit-down of stakeholdersâ
You can imagine the clusterfuck that would turn out to be. Keen visionaries and forward thinkers like his spokesman Sid Heffernan spluttering into their whiskers and longing for the past.
Itâs what has Limerick fucked for years and Tom is just as culpable as the table-sitters in that he never came up with anything to better it. Mind you. itâs about the only area Iâd have sympathy with him for not bothering. Anyone who has tried to progress anything in the last while are only coming up against obstacles and are worn out from beating their heads against a wall. The likes of Eibhear OâDea, Ger Downes, Liam OâSullivan, Emmet OâBrien, Pat Keane in football all get marginalised and dismissed.

Wouldnât disagree at all about Tom but at least the failed salesman wouldnât all walk over him.
Eibhearâs time has gone and he is now one of the chosen elites. Downes fell out with the failed salesman and as such is out of favour. In any case he is olitically motivated as well. OâSullivan, are you for fucking real? This is a guy who publicly despises football and he would be a good man for Limerick GAA. He is too close to the failed salesman in any case to be capable of neutrality. OâBrien is too immersed in trying to get back at FF locally for shafting him in favour of that cunt from Askeaton so he will not be available but he would make a great chairman for sure. Keane seems like an honest lad but is too close to football and as such will get nowhere in Limerick GAA.
You guys are playing us in Cork.Toms quote about Michael Ryan coming down to Cork and walking all over us will be mentioned at some point.I hope there wonât be anymore stories about Limerick men coming down to Cork to walk all over us!

What the fuck are you on about with regards to the bit in bold?Tom achieved great success for Limerick but the county board kept interfering with him.If he was left alone then he would have won an all ireland for Limerick.Like it or not Tom Ryan achieved a lot for Limerick as a player and a manager no matter how much you try to convince yourself otherwise. Tom Ryans status as a Limerick legend will last forever.
Did anyone here ever see the bauld Tom play? Before my time but Iâve heard on occasion he should never have been on the team. May or may not just be begrudgery.
Bit like David Breen then.
signing in. Tom Ryan once gave me a lift when I was thumbing from town out to Ballysimon, on the go from school.
Couldnât understand a word he said.
I see Glasagusban has put me on ignore well two can play that game!Im now putting him on ignore for his quite blatant and obvious trolling with regards to his opinions on Tom Ryan!
A hatchet man who only got on the team due to club politics is what I heard BC, just wondering if anyone here can confirm.
You are a nasty piece of work and i mean that.If your that curious why donât you ask Tom personally himself.
Because I think he would give a biased answer as to the question of whether he deserved his place on the team.
You are making slights and disparaging comments about a legend of Limerick hurling.I demand that you retract them.
Oh shite i was thinking of your man that was kick out by the Waterford players!Of course Limerick probably would have won an all ireland if they kept on Phil Bennis but it admit it doesnât suit my agenda to recognise that!
