The Tom Ryan Appreciation Thread

A few things:

 1. The eulogising of Tom Ryan. Heā€™s been flogging this dead horse for years now.

 2. Endless verbatim copy and pastes from Unlimited Heartbreak in a different typeface. Self-publicity never dies.

 3. He lives near the border and teaches in Cork. Easy to adopt the persona of a Corkman.

 4. He has the Social Media equivalent of Touretteā€™s and canā€™t stay quiet

 5. Finally, he appears to be quite the tit.

Actually thought a while ago that he was the new incarnation of Billy Da Kid given his obsession with Limerick County Board and Mickey Sullivan in particular who shut him up publicly a few years ago.
Tom is a bit like yourself BC, a toothless gimp of a throw back relic to times long passed. He wouldnā€™t fucking coach a 4 YO to swallow a liga. Cregan won an AI as a player and a manager , has since made a telling impact on limerick dev squads and Mary immaculate college but donā€™t let and of that distract you from the imbecilic what if arguments youā€™ve put up here. Ryan had his chance, he was in 2 AI finals against second tier opposition , one against 14 men, and he fucked them up. As a hurler he was committed and robust, that is all.
The larry tomkins comparison to Cregan , FFS, tip along like a good lad, you havenā€™t a clue
Wexford werenā€™t second tier in the mid nineties pal.

Anybody with even the vaguest knowledge of limerick hurling will realise that was a Phil bennis side Ryan inherited. The real mistake made back then was sacking him after Clare beating then in '93

I think Beautiful City is a very informative poster & a huge addition to the place.

Iā€™d say you are right on both fronts.

I know, I was trying to be kind

according to Liam Dunne, Ryan had Limerick totally psyched out of their heads for the 96 final, to the extent they were overcooked and blew it, Gary Kirby gave Liam Dunnes mother the finger in the hogan stand and paid the price. This Beautiful City lad is obviously Henry Martin

Ha that post has me in stitches!Thankā€™s for the compliment but i grew up around where the border with Waterford is.So im a Cork man and i never even lived near Limerick in the first place nevermind being from Limerick .

Tom took on what Phil Bennis did and refined and improved the squad even more.Phil Bennis only won a league title and he had that Limerick team already beaten in their own heads before they even went down to Ennis to play Clare in 1993.

ā€œironā€ mike houlihan was nearly cut in half that day

Where you from anyway?Iā€™d like to know so i can put it on record so to speak.

donā€™t mind where Iā€™m from Henry
Oh and Tom was a fine player for Limerick and a great manager who would have delivered an all ireland eventually if due courtesy and decency was shown.
He was a hatchet man who shouldnā€™t have been on the team in the first place, and he blew winning an all Ireland with an exceptional team. If only weā€™d kept bennis or had Cregan earlier.

Heā€™s the man to take us to the next level.

You have a point about Phil Bennis but your wrong about Cregan. That team was still good enough when Cregan took over from Tom.If Cregan is supposed to be so great then how come he couldnā€™t win anything with that team he inherited from Tom and why did he take a sledge hammer to it?

Tom Ryan won 2 munster titles and a league title with Limerick and they were narrowly beaten in two all ireland finals. What did Eamonn Cregan win when he was managing Limerick?

Why not answer the question Glasagusban instead of clicking the dumb button? In fairness i kind of ended the argument when i asked what did Eamonn Cregan win as Limerick manager!

Just say Cregan won nothing as Limerick manager!Cā€™mon just say it the statā€™s donā€™t lie.

This. And final word, I forgot to add heā€™s a gobshite.

Bandage, lock the thread.

But Glasagusban i already cancelled that point out but instead of taking my points onboard you clicked the dumb button instead!
