The Vinyl Thread

I’m going to board the vinyl bus inspired by the new Fontaines album

@Fagan_ODowd what do you make of this setup. I have Sonos speakers or can listen on headphones

Looks perfectly fine to me.

Rigged up a new set up here. Audio Technica turntable/Edifier power speakers. Great bit of kit.

Well wear pal. Wishing you years of happy listening

Does the turntable have a built in phono stage or digital out or something? Nice compact setup.

It does

How much did that set you back?

The turntable was 149 in Arnotts but I had gift vouchers which meant I got it for nothing. The speakers were 138 on Amazon

Love that album. Had a CD copy for years but finally got the vinyl edition this year.

What an amazing band. Hollis was one talented dude.

I’m the man in the middle

its a brilliant piece of work and doesnt get half the love that spirit of eden gets. hollis was a genius and wayyyyy ahead of his time. still got out before fame got to him.

also love the way they took the piss with the video for its my life for the US market

Asked my kid( 18 in feb) would he like to have a turntable etc ? Straight no, was a bit shocked cos he’s seriously into his music- just wanted him to physically hold a vinyl and experience the excitement as he’s waiting for it to start, instead of everything immediately, we used go to riches stores music shop etc and spend hours listening and ploughing through LPs and singles

Sinnotts, Cantwells and Woolworths were the record shops in Waterford.

All long gone I assume? :frowning:

Ah yeah. Woolworths went around 1980, they shut all their shops in Ireland at the time. Shop was where Penney’s is now on Red Square. Sinnotts had 2 shops. One on John St and one opposite the Cathedral. Cantwells sold instruments as well as records and were on Michael Street.
There’s a second hand record shop in the town that sells absolute tat and a lad opened a new shop down at the Car Stand just before the pandemic. I’d be surprised if it reopened
