The War Films Thread

Fuck me it is too. I’d even given it a like way back in June. George C Scott refused the oscar for it., a man of integrity just like General Patton himself

I haven’t seen it :flushed:

It’s brilliant. The way Patton mugs off Monty. Scott is remarkable in it.

Ah the opening scene alone is epic, half the fucking scenes are iconic. The mutual admiration between himself and Rommel, the two boys really thought they were fighting the second Punic Wars all over again

Patton came from great stock, the Gray ghost was a huge influence on him from a young age.

I’m in bits here.

Watched it myself… The daughter in law was a fine woman.

Fine film

A fine woman. And a great performance by Jimmy Stewart.

If Jimmy Stewart had held his powder and stayed home the boy would have made it back anyway. Instead he went off all bull headed and ended up with two dead sons and a dead daughter in law. It really bugged me that the boy wouldn’t fuck the cap away as well even after he was taken prisoner because of it.

Hindsight is a great thing. Jimmy played the hand he was dealt…they were testing times.

Indeed they were. He couldn’t even get to the church on time.

No Alexa to remind him.

Couldn’t believe the Boy was so stupid that he wouldn’t fuck the hat away.

Watched a bit of Valkyrie last night. I missed the start of it. It’s on again next Wednesday so I might watch it then though it’s directed by a chap who is a Celebrity I’d never heard of and it’s depiction of Count von Stauffenberg is troubling.

You’d enjoy this

Fantastic

I think this belongs in the war movie thread? Very funny piece from a few weeks back that always reminds me of Christmas on the couch, bloated and hungover finishing off the box of Roses…
