Concrete house will withstand wind better & usually wonā€™t float away.

Itā€™s down to the Heat too Iā€™d imagine, probably easier keep cool in warmer climate.

Iā€™m not sure much will withstand a category 4 hurricane tbh

Itā€™s one reason. I researched this once. They have an abundance of cheap wood so most houses are built on stilts rather than a foundation. Hence the ā€œcrawl spaceā€ they always talk about in movies.

These crawl spaces seem to be popular in colder areas also, which I couldnā€™t understand. Itā€™s just a cheaper build with wood.

Thereā€™s a reason all thatā€™s usually left behind after a tornado are the chimneys and front steps.Have a guess.That and timber houses are much cheaper/quicker to lash together.

But theyā€™re fastened to the foundationsā€¦by a couple of bolts.
