So do you think it was worse in other parts of Ireland and may possibly not have been as bad in the part you were in?
Looks like some very nice weather coming in from Tuesday onwards.
How is it still only Thursday?
Must be a usual winter. We’ve had frosts and heavy snow along with two bad storms.
When it rained it’s absolutely lashed but been a lot more dry days than usual.
Continuing the discussion from
The Weather Thread part 2 (Part 1):
West coast of Clare, Galway, Mayo look like being wiped out and it will cause significant damage inland from there, up and across places like Tuam, Longford etc.
Speaking on RTÉ’s Morning Ireland, Mr Tarrant said that the scale of the damage around the country is still “very, very significant”.
It comes as gardaí issued a warning about bogus tradespeople operating in areas affected by Storm Éowyn.
The northwest bore the brunt of the damage, with the area around Tuam in Co Galway one of the worst affected areas, according to Mr Tarrant.
Storms existed before the warnings,
A storm is a storm at the end of the day ![]()

“Storm Herminia” only affected continental Europe. It had little presence here, therefore I don’t know why it Ireland was brought into the conversation about it. The papers have to write about something I suppose…

That’s the first I ever heard of storm Hermania
But if it’s been categorized as a storm then it’s a storm.
I don’t think they’ve changed the definition of storm
You’re conflating Met Eireann with the media. MEs guidance around the colour coded warnings is very clear. It’s the media who twist things and hype them up to generate clicks.
It’s a beautiful day in the mid west.Im sitting on top of a tonne of cement waiting on Hogans Concrete truck having my breakfast and the sun is beaming down on us.I might even take my coat off if it gets any warmer.Glorious day so far.
Frosty enough this morning though…
Uncle lives in Tuam. Still without power as of yesterday
Uncle lives in Tuam
Fastest town in Ireland
I’d take that over the rain any day
I was up there Sunday. They had no water pressure either for days. Some of the big double ESB poles on the Galway side as your going in the motorway were lying over ready to topple
did he vote rural independents?
No idea how he voted. Ireland operates with a secret ballot
