He will be an elite poster or rebranded by Saturday one feels. No margin for error as lads lives and livelihoods at stake with his calls.
was there snow in February 1991 that coincided with a friendly international v Wales?
i remember been sent home from school as pipes had burst
There was indeed snow around this time, mate. I recall it sticking as I got the bus home from school one weekday afternoon. I can’t remember the exact date but it was early in February 1991 and I think it lasted on the ground for roughly a day and a half. Actually you might be right that it coincided with the Wales-Eire game (Wednesday February 6th) because I think there was slush on the ground on the Friday morning which would be consistent with a Wednesday afternoon fall.
However I’m sure I remember being in school the day after the Wales-Eire game in Wrexham when there was discussion about Kevin Sheedy being the only player on the pitch to wear a short sleeved shirt. Our school was definitely closed for at least a day due to the snow and had it fallen on that Wednesday I wouldn’t have been in school on the Thursday.
So my memory is a bit Paddy Jackson - all over the place. Maybe it happened the previous Wednesday, which would have actually been January 30th? That doesn’t seem right. Or maybe the snow fell on the Thursday, not the Wednesday, which would have been February 7th?
February 1987 saw a significant snowfall in the Dublin area and a similar fall to 1991 happened as I got the bus home from school in February 1993.
To round off this post in a spectacularly boring manner, there was also a mild snowfall which stuck to the ground on the morning of April 14th, 1999, which was the day of the Arsenal-Manchester United FA Cup semi-final replay, which is the latest snowfall I remember.
I’m open to correction on this but I don’t think there was a significant snowfall in the Dublin area from 1993 until 2010.
Once I’ve analysed the various models which will be released between 3 - 4pm we’ll have a much clearer picture where we are heading.
At present it’s looking like the East Coast will have pretty much persistent snow until Thursday where the activity will ramp up even more. Parts of Dublin could be under feet of snow by Thursday midnight.
Limerick etc probably much shorter but very heavy snow. There may be some flurries before then but the main band of snow will arrive in the Midwest around 5pm Thursday.
Sarf Lahndan mate
