The Weather Thread

Yer in the Bahamas down there in Cork Kev,there hasnt been a thaw of any kind up this way for almost a Week and there isnt going to be one for another Week by the looks of things.I left my tap running about half way the other night and the water was still frozen the next morning,my pump house is like an igloo,at -13 and -14 this sort of thing happens apparently.

Went to Tesco last night for some supplies and the place was like a cattlemart, you couldnt push the trolly around the aisles and the shelves were half empty,no bread, milk, spuds, meat or veg to be had,my brother reported similar outrageous scenes in Super Valu in Thomastown.

Left my tap running here aswell and it still froze.

Fairly decent fall of snow in south Fingal overnight.

Any preventitive ways of stopping your pipes freezing lads or is it more of a rural problem?

Keep a tap dripping-moving water can’t freeze. However, if you have your own well and pump there’s a danger of it burning out.

My pump house is covered in ice back home-am in Dublin now, just had my first shower in about 3 days. Lovely.

Moving Water has been freezing all over the South East,i know dozens of people who hsve no water this minute and they all used the ingenius prevention measure of leaving taps running, they froze anyway, still id leave it running all the same, might help the cause.

I have far better balance than that, Runty. Also, I would’ve had the contents of that brown bag in my manbag, freeing up my arms in the event of a tumble.

The last thing you do is leave the tap running overnight in the hope that this will prevent the pipes from freezing. The truth is it only exacperates the problem.

All the neighbours around here did just that and they woke up with frozen pipes. I did nothing of the sort and we’re the finest here…

How in the name of jaysus would it make it worse?

Exacperates

I’m no scientist but a bonafied scientist on the television said so, and it appears he’s right when you compare my situation with that of my neighbours…

was onto home earlier and the mother was telling me how she defrosted pipes going into washing machine with a hairdryer…

The mother superior? are you a nun?

I can confirm that CLG is far from a nun…

me ma … that better…

would prefer the aul wan. Not very lady like to call her ‘the mother’.

I always call her “the mother” too-maybe it’s a Wexford thing.

Yeah but you’re a man.
