The who is going in to work versus who is (Not)WFH/taking AL tomorrow thread?

I do think those of us sacrificing a lot to pop into city centre offices every now & again, & effectively keeping the lights on & subsidising those down the bog who can’t be arsed (cc @StoneCold, @Phil_Leotardo), should be paid more. Now that could either be a pay rise for me or a cut for the muldoons, I don’t really mind - I just want it to be more uncomfortable for those smug fuckers in their huge one off houses with islands in their kitchens. #TeamPlayer

Be interesting to see what happens next. Will companies keep paying high rent for office space or chose to let it off and pay people a little else because they are saving so much from working at home and take away the choice.

Excuse me I have been doing some coffee badging lately

I saw a Journal article earlier this week with quotes from anonymous TikTok staff railing against a 5-days in the office per week mandate. Apparently they had been 2 or 3 days pw but were given 2 months’ notice of a return to a mandatory 5-days pw in the office. Folk saying they’ll be absentee parents & will be stuck on motorways etc etc.

It’s pretty much a way for many companies to force people to leave without incurring redundancy costs. If anything, surely this past week has taught us it’s more important to faff around wfh so you can bring your kids to football at 5pm on a Friday rather than be collaborating in an office somewhere.

Unemployment figures now at a 4 year high. A senior fella in recruitment told me before that their industry is generally about 6 months ahead of the general economic curve and he told me recently the last year has been desperate. I’d say things will start snowballing pretty soon, particularly as the MNC keep cutting head count and the cost of doing business crucifies the SME sector.

There’s an awful lot of quiet culling going on. Where PE and mergers are seeing more and more staff cut from businesses at a small scale, but cumulatively it’ll start to add up.

My portfolio of stocks is going south.

I’d say the whole thing is fucked to be honest but like any good captain, I’ll go down with my ship.

4 of my mates, all early 50s have been made redundant in the last year, all this corporate guff about well being but once you hit the big 50 you’re expendable.

Best advice, don’t even look at them. It’s a long term play.

Silver was unsustainable but the lads that got in at the right time are still looking at a very tidy profit

Let’s be clear here - you just want to be able to train for a marathon while clocked in at work.

I think Mack Hansen was just about to say what you wrote there in his MOTM speech last week before Tony O’Donoghue cut him off.

Sorry bro.

If its any consolation I predict being shit canned within the year.

I miss going into other companies toilets on other floors and using up their jacks roll stinking out the jacks.

Hard to time it right but bailing out into cash for 12 months and buying back in then might not be the worst plan
