[QUOTE=“mickee321, post: 944567, member: 367”]Lineker … up there with Johnathon Speake and Emilio Burtagueno or " the vulture" as one of my all time favourite goalscorers.
Lineker was superb in the six yard box

Surely a blatant foul from Lineker in the build up to the first goal

Terry Butcher was a true inspiration and a true leader, always urging on his English brothers in arms even if he wasn’t on the pitch. John Bull epitomised, the very best of British grit and determination. A man you would certainly have wanted in the trenches with you.

Holland v Argentina 1998 was the last big World Cup match to be played in blazing afternoon heat. I always felt that the greatest World Cup matches were played in such conditions and that it added to the atmosphere. Italy-Brazil '82, Italy-West Germany 1970, Argentina-England '86 etc.

His cousin willie scored a goal for Kerry in that years all Ireland semi final.

Even as an England fan, I would have to acknowledge that the goal and the commentary were both pretty special.

Victory here for Communism is the definitive Cold War World Cup match. Deutsche Demokratische Republik beat Bundesrepublik Deutschland with a goal from FC Magbeburg legend Jurgen Sparwasser. Great control and finish here from Sparwasser before a politically charged crowd in the Volksparkstadion in Hamburg.

It was a Pyrrhic victory for the Prussians as the win ensured that they topped the group but qualified for the more difficult second phase group and virtually assured their elimination.

The Disgrace of Gijon. Or the Anschluß match as it is known in Algeria. A 1-0 win for West Germany over Austria at the El Molinon will see both through at the expense of plucky Algeria who beat the Germans in the first game. Horst Hrubesch scores after 10 minutes and the two teams stroll through the next 80 minutes barely breaking a sweat.

Claudio Cannigia slaloms one, two, but not three Cameroonian tackles…Step forward, Benjamin Massing

that was unbelievable. I think Jimmy Magee did the commentary, he was outraged.

Someone throw up the clip the time the Kuwaiti sheikh invaded the pitch when the French scored a goal. Could be 1982?

And the goals from 1982 Italy and Brazil.

Bruno Bellone’s penalty for France i believe from the ould fella and Tony Ward should not have stood as the ball went dead after it hit the post, the commentary from John Motson and Jimmy Hill is sublime.
I watched this whole game again actually in the wee hours the other night whilst trying to get him to sleep, an absolutely fascinating game of ball
