I think Youghal is a very underrated Irish town. Here are a few facts about Youghal.
1 Youghal is the oldest town in County Cork
2 Youghal has produces great Cork hurlers like Seanie Leary, Willie Walsh, Pat Hegarty and Noel Gallagher.Seamie Harnedy went to school in the town.
3 The town has a lovely old world harbour, a promenade with lovely views of the sea and a nice beach.
4 It has some fine historic monuments. The Clock Gate, the almshouses, the red house, Tyntes castle, Myrtle Grove where Walter Raleigh planted the first potato in Ireland and the old town walls.
5 It has nice pubs like Maggie Mays and Moby Dicks and nice restaurants like the Red Store and the Lighthouse Brassiere.
6 Friendly locals even Waterford people are welcome!
7 Perks funfair.
8 Great chippers like the Roma Grill and Doyles.
9 Thereās also a Tescos and Lidl.
All in Youghal is a grand spot although itās sad to see a lot of factories closed down in the town over the years and the recession is taking itās toll on the town centre. The town could do with some badly needed investment.

Thanks BC-good to know. Might swing by Youghal and check it out the next time Iām down that neck of the woods.
Anywhere east of Castlemartyr and West of Midleton can just be forgotten about. Clonmel and Tralee are decent places. The people are just misguided. If Youghal dropped off the bottom of the country no-one would miss it.
Clonmel and Tralee are two horrible towns (well more so Tralee than Clonmel) with clannish people! East Cork is a grand spot.Killeagh which is just down the road from Youghal is a lovely village.East Cork and West Waterford are very underrated parts of Ireland.
Youghal is dirty and full of undesirables, but like Cobh, it has quite a bit of character and some nice pubs/restaurants. The drive from Youghal to Ardmore/Dungarvan is nice as well.
Carrigtwohill on the other hand has zero redeeming qualities. I spent a couple of days in Malaysia recently,a decrepit āindustrialā third world country with zero charm and character, and I couldnāt help but be constantly reminded of Carrig-fucking-twohill.
