Boris johnson’s direct paternal line is turkish. His great grandfather was Ali Kemal, a senior minister in the last ottoman government. His true inherited surname is Kemal. His grandfather adopted the name Johnson from another line when he was raised in England, his father having been killed in the Turkish revolution 1920 (Ataturk)

Off to the things I learned today thread.

Not only did Marie Curie win two Nobel Prizes, but her family has been the recipient of five total Nobel Prizes. She won two, her husband, Pierre Curie, won one. Her daughter, Irène Joliot-Curie, won the Chemistry Prize in 1935 with her husband. Her second daughter was also the director of UNICEF when it won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1965. #familybusiness
