Things I learned today (Part 1)

A gorgeous rock chick. She died very young.

Never went past 10 m yet, need peace and time to watch it, but Iā€™ll give it a lash

Loved it as a kid, played for hours as weā€™d the ol dolls joining in aswell, they couldnā€™t hack GAA or soccer, done fuc*ing cheating going on and the inevitable roaring matches

I bookmarked this when I seen it a couple of weeks ago. Check out those numbers. Look at the population of Tipp. So much thought and conversation can lead from that map. mobile.twitter.com

Population of counties of Ireland in 1841 vs Now https://twitter.com/CriostoirMcCaba/status/1260500185270140929/photo/1

Weā€™d probably have 20M people living in the country today were not for the famine. In 25 years expert who study this kind of thing reckon the population will be around what it was in pre-famine times

Tipp has some fine sized towns spread throughout the county. Even a forgotten place like Clogheen at one time was a thriving hub.

Stuff of fucking nightmares, weā€™ve no border with Tipp in the second mapā€¦

The weather forecasts are less reliable these days because there are fewer planes flying sending back data.

Would that take into account the amount who would have likely emigrated to the new world of America as economic migrants?

Regardless of the famine we surely would have had a sizable number go and reduce/slow the population growth

At the time we were all Limerick. Itā€™s only in recent times we allow them to think that they have their own county, but we really own them, itā€™s all Limerick.

I think we are the only country in the world with a smaller population today than 1840 which, if true, is an amazing stat.
Id say youā€™re right though, the fact we were a poor colony who spoke English, this leading to more heading to USA, has as much to do with it as the actual famine

I suspect it wonā€™t. There has been an unprecedented wealth boom which I reckon is unlikely to continue, and thereā€™s a limit to the number of FDI jobs Iā€™d imagine. If that slows, social welfare type attractions will fall, and with that, I suspect, immigration.
The long term population of ā€œindigenousā€ (for want of a better word) educated people tends to decline as birth rate falls with education levels, so without immigration, the population will likely level out and then slowly decline.
Iā€™m not commenting on the rights or wrongs or whatever. Just canā€™t see the population doubling in the next 25 years šŸ¤·
Be good for me in one way if it does.

Informative. I was only thinking to myself itā€™s been way off a few times the last few weeks

Juneteenth is a thing

Sarah McInerney was in the girl guides.

Brian Fenton drives a Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. I wonder does any Dublin footballer pay for their own car.

He stopped the car before me to go into the Butlers Pantry in Raheny which was also my plan.

Car
Phone
Electricity
Food
Arse towels

Tis all laid on.

He must have gotten an upgrade, he had a sponsored Subaru before that.

The best footballer in the country has a sponsored car. Who would of thunk it?
