As I understand it, the excuse is that the sugar content in the grape dictates the alcohol content of the wine. The hotter it is, the higher the sugar content in the grape. Unfortunately, this means that the sugar content gets high before the tannins in the grape are ready, but for the producer, itās safer to err on the side of opting for higher sugar content, so the wines are getting stronger with global warming, and new world producers. There are grape varieties which can offset this, but they arent, I suspect, as cost effective, and there is a slow but steady move towards wines of 14-15% becoming the norm.
I donāt like strong wine by and large. 12.5-13% is about right, but these are becoming scarcer, hence my question.
I donāt know why people seem to think you have to be rich or a snob to find it interesting. There is far more shite on the craft beer thread, but š¤·.
Iāve started to buy wines en primeur, but I havenāt a fcuking clue what Iām at, and I plan to drink them.
They did. I asked Peadar about it one day and he confirmed that they knew how clever it was.
Did he claim that the name worked on three levels, or was he just aware of the two?
