Things I learned today (Part 1)

Good article, but no fucker should be made play in that shithole on the outskirts of Portlaoise. I’d consider going anywhere else, though.

I’m a weak, weak person.

Not sure whether to deduce that I am physically weak or morally weak. There’s always the gym or advice from my good friend @Mark Rento for the former but is there anything I can do for the latter?

[QUOTE=“myboyblue, post: 958371, member: 180”]Bernard Brogan has never played Championship outside of Croke Park

Brogan used to work in the same place as my brother. Although not the worst at his job he was basically allowed come and go as he pleased. And when the company fucked up with a client the partners would “send Brogan out” with the guys working on the job. So much so that it became a slogan in the office.

That sounds like fear mate. Dread even. I don’t blame you, O’Moore Park is a cauldron.

Match reports often are written like that. He has a deadline to make so he writes up the first half report first at half timeand then he tags on a bit at the start about how the game panned out. Not too unusual at all

In world cup penalty shoot outs, if a player has a kick to win the tie, he converts it 93% of the time. If he has a kick to save the game, the conversion rate drops to 44%.

Interesting.

Not really , in one kick its upside, and team gets another chance, with the other it’s all downside…more pressure

There was a program on 5 live last week about how crap England are at penalty shoot outs.

On 57% of penalty kicks the goalkeeper dives to the left, on 41% he dives to the right. In only 2% of cases does he stay in the centre. Yet only 17% of kicks go down the centre.

No. I’ve driven past it a good few times on the portlaoise ring road. The whole place feels like an industrial estate. It’s a soulless kip. Feel free to turn it into a cauldron and light a fire under it.
I

if its English players we’re talking about they are probably trying to go down the centre 50% of the time. but due to their sheer lack of technical ability they’re only managing it 17% of the time

Portlaoise has a ring road?

If the goalie waves his hands, the penalty taker is more likely to hit the ball closer to the goalkeeper.

It does if you’re trying to stay the fuck out of it.

You sound like you fail badly at this.

Not at all. I have to go for work. I avoid the centre of the abyss by using the ring road. I come out that way also. Once i have a good shower, i feel ok again.

You should never go to Athy

I was just thinking that too. It’s always been top of my worst town in Ireland list .
