Ferguson also acted alongside Michael Mansfield in representing the Birmingham 6 in their unsuccessful 1988 appeal. The Crown case was led by Igor Judge, who later became Chief Justice.
He was, indeed, a former Unionist member of Stormont, but was a noted heavyweight in human rights/miscarriage of justice cases.
