The script writing of the RTE Sports Department which fundamentally misunderstands one of the most basic metaphors in common parlance. In its report on this Irish Grand National today they reported that it was “a race that took lots of prisoners” as they showed a jockey taking a fall. Obviously they don’t understand that taking prisoners is a charitable act and required under the Geneva Convention for all countries in a state of war. Not taking prisoners is what the likes of the SS and other ruthless men at arms do. So in their attempts to portray the Irish Grand National course as a stiff, unforgiving course they have got it completely the wrong way around. On top of the Primetime Investigates and Tweetgate disasters, this grave error is another nail in the coffin of this discredited organisation.

Have you ever had cheesecake? That is basically what it is . Philadephia mixed with lemon/chocolate/strawberry. Not a great fan of it myself but it is fairly commonplace.

Cannabis Shoe Brit Freed From Dubai Jail

A British man sentenced to four years in jail in Dubai after cannabis weighing less than a grain of sugar was found embedded in the tread of his shoe has reportedly been pardoned.

The English language paper 7Days said Keith Andrew Brown was released early from prison in the Western-orientated emirate.

The 43-year-old was arrested in September at Dubai International Airport.
Customs officers found 0.003 grams (0.0001 ounces) of cannabis in a cigarette stub stuck on the sole of one his shoes.

The UAE - a popular destination for British tourists - imposes tough penalties for all drug-related offences.

Four years is the usual sentence for possession while trafficking is punishable by death.
On February 19 the British dance act, DJ Grooverider, was sentenced to four years in prison for drug possession after trace amounts of marijuana was found in his luggage in November.

The charity Fair Trials Abroad has said it also has reports of a Swiss national being jailed after three poppy seeds from a bread roll were found on his clothes.

The UAE’s tough stance on drugs includes bans on many over-the-counter medications, including melatonin, which is taken to ease the effects of jetlag, and codeine, a common ingredient in pain relievers.

Visitors to Dubai and Abu Dhabi are now being advised to “take extreme caution” and “avoid arrest for ‘possession’ of a controlled substance”.

Public fury over ‘racist’ Trayvon Martin killing

There’s mounting outrage at the shooting dead of an unarmed black teenager in Florida - it is online [/url]and it is [url=“http://www.cfnews13.com/content/news/cfnews13/news/article.html/content/news/articles/cfn/2012/3/16/travon_martin_shooting”]on the streets.
The reason for the fury is the belief that 17-year-old Trayvon Martin was a victim of racism. Not what is now called a “hate crime” - not that he was targeted for random violence because of his colour. Not that sort of racism, but the racism of assumption: that a black teenager in a hoodie in smart neighbourhood must be up to no good.

It is the assumption by police that the man who shot him was telling the truth, that it was self defence, even though Trayvon was near his own home, armed only with a bag of sweets and a soft drink.

The anger is all the stronger because a series of emergency calls to the police are very revealing and disturbingly graphic.
In the first, the neighbourhood watch captain, George Zimmerman, shows his suspicion of the teenager: his anger that could be summed up as “they” keep getting away with “it” and his refusal to listen to police advice to not go after Trayvon Martin.

There are disturbing 911 calls from neighbours where you can hear prolonged screaming in the back ground. And then a single shot.
Then there is the testimony of a friend who Trayvon called moments before his death, when he asks why he is being followed. Then there are sounds of a struggle.

The police did not arrest the man who shot the teenager, even though he, unlike Trayvon Martin, had been arrested in the past.
Florida, though, has a law - often known as the “stand your ground” that makes it far from certain that those defending themselves can be arrested for a crime.

A very few see the outrage as orchestrated by a liberal media. There has been a bit of an odd argument that Mr Zimmerman was not white but Hispanic.

But it is pretty obvious a lot of black people think it self-evident that this is about race.

Chauncy De Vega has some profound reflections on this which are well worth reading.

It is only 72 years since Congress would not pass a law making lynching illegal.

The US has travelled a long way since then, but it is not surprising that cases like this stir up fears that some lessons have not been learnt well enough.
