Tony Dobbin rides his last race in Carlisle today. The race name has been changed to “Dobbs Finale & Future Best Wishes Novices’ Chase”. He is riding a horse for his main trainer Nicky Richards called Ballyvoge

He was something like 15/8 this morning and is now trading at best price 3/10. I’d say you can be fairly sure he’d win if you want to plough into him.

When I started writing this I thought he was 15/8 and a decent price. Now the value is completely gone though. He’ll probably lose seeing as I’ve tipped him but sure its probably a licence to print money.

Won at 4/11 to cap a fantastic career for Dobbin. Wish him all the best with his training career.

Would only have backed it at those odds if I’d mounds of cash to really lump on it.

Are races like this one and Conor O’Dwyer’s winning farewell at Fairyhouse last month in effect scripted beforehand (allegedly!)?

Well O’Dwyers one wasn’t as clear cut. It was during the Easter Festival and in a good class race. The one today did look like a bit of a set up. The race being named in his honour was sort of a bit OTT but I think he has some sort of affection with Carlisle. Reading the reports on it though he was lucky to win.

Disgraceful actions by the second jockey - his name escapes me at the minute. Dropped his hands twice on the run in. Deservedly banned for it.

No way was Conor O’Dwyer’s win on Mister Top Notch “scripted” as Bandage so eloquently put it !!
