Was it an important tournament he won? Are they not all fairly Mickey Mouse outside of the four majors, the Ryder Cup and the Golf World Cup?
Arguably the biggest tournament of the year if you are in with a shout of winning the Fex Ex Cup.
He won $4.62 million for his efforts, and came within a whisker of winning $11.62 million (he came into the tournament ranked 20). Not just any old tournament, a good one to win for your first win in 5 years.

I donāt know much about golf but I know enough to know that the Fed Ex Cup is not arguably bigger than the Open. The Open has been the biggest tournament in golf since 1860.
The Open winner gets $1.89 million. Justin Rose took home $10.4 million yesterday. Iām not sure how good your math is, but which would you prefer to win?

Any golfer worthy of the name would go for the Open. Iād say the 10m Rose won yesterday would never make up for the loss in 1998.

If I was a golfer, Iād prefer to win the Open and be the Champion Golfer of the Year. I hadnāt heard of the Fed Ex Cup until this morning.
Money is not always everything in sport. Some things you just canāt buy. Would you have preferred the Galway County Board to be getting twenty six Celtic Cross hurling medals round about now, that probably cost a few hundred quid in total to produce or would you rather be getting this 100 Grand from JP to share around? I doubt thereād be such largesse coming from Geneva if Galway had won the two in a row.
Of course you would because youāre English.
Itās very hard to argue thereās anything more important then money in professional sports. Witness the excitement Irish/British golfers had about representing their countries in the last Olympics.
