Fuck off.
Blah blah blah
It was a remarkable statistic from that 1996 All Ireland Final that from the time Eamonn Scallan was sent off around the 30 minute mark, Wexford didn’t concede another free in the match within scoring range. The most disciplined and possibly greatest ever defensive performance in an All Ireland Final. Limerick really did bottle it though with numerical advantage.
It was also a fair pull by Liam Dunne
It’s a disgrace the lack of credit that WX team actually get for that performance once Scallan got the road.
They were a likeable enough team. The problem has been all the bullshit fucking whining ever since from their not so likeable supporters.
You as a fanatical spurs fan would know a lot about bottling alright
Yes. They’re regularly described as the worst team to win an All Ireland in recent times which I always found strange. The likes of Damien Fitzhenry, Liam Dunne, Larry O’Gorman, Adrian Fenlon, Martin Storey and George O’Connor (even if he was well past it at 37 in 1996) would be in any conversation when discussing picking all time great teams of modern times. They were probably closer to their peak in 1993 than 1996 but ran into an exceptional Kilkenny team in 1993.
More accurately they were goosed after the trilogy League final vs Cork.
That 96 team did have players who added more to the side than what the team in 93 did. The core of the team was the same, but adding in Rory McCarthy and Garry Laffan from the 21s and a couple more years experience helped. That team in 93 was certainly up there and good enough to win it out, but just didn’t have the experience to see out games, losing many tight games over a few campaigns.
Wouldn’t agree with that. I def thought the '93 was more talented but the management of of the '96 team was second to none.
If Griffin had them in '93 they would have strolled to that All-Ireland.
Sheedy correctly saying Wexford have to be favourites for tomorrow’s match, Wexford were too powerful for a Kilkenny team that were too powerful for a Limerick team that were too powerful for Tipperary.
Tipp don’t have the legs to live with the intensity that Wexford will bring tomorrow.
Sure lookit we will go out there and give it our all, and we’ll see on the day if it is enough or not
Great to be back in a semi-final, hardly be two shocks in the one weekend though.
Sure listen, we’ll see what happens. It’s nice to be one of the last 3 teams left. It will take an almighty effort to get over the line
Given that KK are in the final having lost 2 games you could almost say that tomorrow is the real final
The weight of history, Tipperary the home of hurling, the Premier County, 27 All Ireland wins will do Wexford with their paltry 6 tomorrow just like Kilkenny’s tradition, pedigree and 36 All Ireland wins did little old Limerick with their mere 8 this evening.
The bookies are rarely wrong and the odd time they are, it doesn’t happen twice in a row. Tipperary are 1/2 tomorrow, Wexford 2/1.
Tipp’s to loose tomorrow, experience still counts for a lot.
Come on Wexford
