Fact
Apparentl;y Padriag Maher played center-forward tonight against Waterford…
Things look fairly bad over there alright.
Sadly,…
SECOND-half goals from subs Noel McGrath and Patrick Maher proved key as Tipperary defeated Munster finalists Waterford by five points in a keenly contested senior hurling challenge at Semple Stadium last night.
At the midway point, Tipperary led by 0-15 to 0-13 as all six of the home side’s starting forwards, both midfielders and impressive right half-back David Young scored first-half points from play.

Fucking hell they’ll ruin Maher. If Daragh Egan and Hammersley are still involved later on i’d be very confident Tipp wouldn’t even makes semi’s.
Who’s the D.Young that got 3 points from half back?
David Young, Toomevara was captain of the U-21’s the year KK beat them in a replay. Tidy hurler.
Ah, i actually think i remember him, would he have played midfield as well?
What you think of the Maher thing. They already fucked him around against Cork, its not like he’s Brian Corcoran or someone coming near the end where they need to find a place for him. He was nearly player of the whole year last year at full backfor feck sake, he’ll learn how to deal with the likes of Aisake. They’ll ruin his confidence.
fanning doesn’t strike me as the full back type either. He’s an out and out half player, even though i know he’s played full in the past.
He was wing-back on the U-21’s anyway, never saw him centre-field
I think Maher’s confidence is probably a bit shot after the Cork game, it was only a challenge anyway so no harm to try things out. Tipp have been really struggling in the half-forward line for years now, it was easy for the Cork half-back line to play perfect ball into Aisake when they were under no pressure.I don’t think they fucked him around against Cork, he played Aisake wrong and they had to move him off him. They should however be coaching him on what to do if they were to meet again, he is still only 20 and developing as a hurler, he has played centre-field for Sarsfields so hurling out the field is not an alien concept to him.
Fanning won an all-star at full back, and played alot of club hurling at full-back also. I wouldn’t read alot into him playing full back last night though as Curran is injured. It would be worse if all these thing were being tried out in a Championship match though…
True ya. Definitely think Fanning moving out was the making of him though. Maher for me is the best all round hurler outside of KK at the moment, talent wise anyway. He’s Brian Corcoran type of hurler, could probably play anywhere, but i think they need to settle on a spot for now, and try things as he gets older. I think center back myself, but i don’t rate Conor O’ Mahoney as high as others.
Of the Tipp half-back line last year, Fanning was the one most deserving of an all-star, more so than O’Mahoney although Conor has filled a troublesome position for Tipp admirably over the last number of years.
Maher won’t feature in the Tipp forward line in a championship match anytime soon.
Tipp could di wrse than give Darragh Egan a go at full forward, if given the right ball he could do plenty of damage, although he could do with a bit of cut to him…
Thought Fanning was outstanding against Kilkenny last year and got little or no credit for it
Bit cut off him you mean…
+1
he is still hardly carrying a ball of timber after spending the whole spring training :o …For a lad his size he is badly lacking in aggresion because he certainly is a very talented hurler
No drive in him at all. I think he is better conditioned this year than in other years.
