Noel McGrath to undergo surgery for testicular cancer

:o
I assumed this was going to be about Lar. thats horrible news.

Is recovery time for that in weeks or months?

Will he be able to play inter county this summer?

(Apologies if this is a silly question)

I would think that’s the least of his concerns tbf!!!

Best of luck to him. A tough road ahead but not the worst place to get it. Hopefully a full recovery.

I’d imagine the chemo will be intensive so he’ll be out for this year anyway.

Best of luck to him, tough times.

Oh, :frowning:

Shocking news about Noel McGrath. Hope the treatment goes well and he makes a full recovery.

Very tough for Noel. Hopefully he gets back to full health as soon as possible. Hurling is irrelevant in all of this.

Been a tough couple of years for the community in Loughmore with Eddie Connolly as well.

He may not be out for the whole championship depending how far Tipp get and on his recovery - a young lad on our soccer team went in for the same op/treatment and he was back ten weeks later- it’s all relative and i’m not comparing junior soccer with senior hurling but if everything goes smoothly you’d never know.

Hopefully for him surgery would be enough and chemo won’t be necessary. Usually treatable enough if caught on time thankfully. Best of luck to the poor lad.

The Times says he’ll miss the season.

That’s the GAA for you.
“I’ve got testicular cancer.”
“That’s a tough break, the bounce of the ball went against you. Will you be available to play Mullinahone next week.”
“No.”
“Will you be available for Rd 2 of the Munster Championship in June.”
“Fuck off.”

For a lad his age I would think they will blast the fuck out of whatever is there.
My brother had it last summer, ball off, 4 full weeks of chemo with 2 weeks break in between each one, 2 chemo sessions each day, pretty tough treatment. Scans came back clear after 4 months, took him a bit longer to get right though.

Best wishes to Noel in his recovery. Would I be right in saying that this is one of the more treatable cancers? Tough times for Loughmore lately with Eddie Connolly and now this

Some dose for a 24 year old. Best of luck to him.

Yes this one has a really good survival rate I’ve heard. 95% to 98%

All depends how early it is caught but it sure is… The chap on our team is only 19, the poor cunt, but he only had to have an op, no chemo- there’s a lot of permutations to it and every case is different.

Like them all really. The earlier its caught the better. Hopefully all goes well for the lad.
