Thurles have senior A and Senior B. I think there are 32 senior teams between both A and B and the 2 Thurles teams are probably in top 20. Pity there isn’t a local rivalry as such though.
Carrick on Suir has 3 clubs ; granted one in Waterford and none near the stature of TS but is a much smaller town.
Moycarkey Borris may as well be Thurles. I’m sure a lot of clubs around feed off the Thurles school system.
It is in towns such as Cahir and Tipp where questions should be asked. 2 bad to middling junior hurling clubs in medium sized towns.
In fairness Cashel and Clonmel have clubs back in the senior ranks in recent years while Templemore and Roscrea have teams that would be seen to be top 8 in the coming years.
I’m pretty sure Moycarkey has the biggest geographical area to pick from in Tipp.
Did any thurles man play championship for Tipp in the Babs years ???
I think Brendan Carroll was coming on the scene in 94. Don’t know if he played championship that year.
The Enrights were a few years after that. There might have been someone 87/88 but the older Tipp heads might help there.
Was 93 Babs last year ( 1st term ) ?
From the outskirts of Thurles to the outskirt of Cashel?
Boherlahan would cut if off from Cashel. @carryharry would be a better man on the exact geographical boundaries over there.
Yes . They won the league that year and Leahy broke ankle ( playing football ?? ) . Ambushed by Clare then iirc
Always thought Toome was one of the biggest parishes in the county but you could be right with Moycarkey
Something like four fairly large primary schools in each parish. Most rural clubs would have two at most.
We’d have four (if you include the boy school) but two of them would be fairly small
To all intents and purposes ye are nearly a town now.
Moyle Rovers have a massive catchment area. Surely one of the biggest
The Gaels are an irrelevance really.
To be fair to Sars they are really well organised now and there is a good togetherness about them. Their Junior Bs won a county a few years back.
The only way the Gaels will get strong is if there is a massive falling out in Sars with proper bitterness and a split develops.
That doesn’t look like it will ever happen now.
Moycarkey geographically is the biggest parish in Munster I believe but I’d imagine Moyle would have a much bigger pick with all those houses down the hill at Ard Gaoithe.
Is it true the Tesco in Clonmel is technically in Moyle Rovers parish too?
Yeah it goes down to Rathronan (half way to Kilsheelan), out to Fethard and out past Barren Lodge/Rathkeevin on Cahir Road. They have a massive pick.
