My auld lad stopped going to matches two years ago as he hit the 80. I thought he was done but the strong Newport contingent has got him following the minors.
He told my sister (who lives in Limerick) that heās collecting her at 12pm latest today. The match throws in at 3pm. I had to double check there hadnāt been a venue change

Won handy in extra time. Not a great sign that a team of 30+ year olds pulled away from that Holycross team so easily
They wonāt be beaten this year either. Holycross much vaunted forward line well marshalled
St Maryās beat Mullinahone to win only their 2nd South Senior Championship and their first since 1981.

Great weekend of divisional finals in Tipperary.
Borris look to be back being a contender again after a few awkward years post Brendan Maher era. Dan Mc is at 3. Jerry Kelly is back which is a massive boost.
Loughmore get it done in the mid in a game littered with wides. Were the better team in the first half but only went in a point up. Stopped hurling in the third quarter and Holycross were 3 up with five to go. Typical Loughmore no panic and got a draw.
Clon similar in the west.
Massive crowds in all four divisions. No one does it like Tipperary.
Best hurling county in the world.

Pipe Bands, Parades and all the bells and whistles.
Probably 3k in Dundrum last night for the West Senior Final and could have been 2k at the Intermediate Friday night which was a great win for a very young Arravale Rovers team.
Some win for Maryās today down South.
Sets it up beautifully for the County Championships in two weeks time.

South division is really really shit. All Premier intermediate sides. Gone is the day youād have the Kellys for Mullinahone, Fanning, Bubbles in Killenaule. Decent Swan and Ballingarry sides that were greater than the sum of their parts. Ballingarry lost to a Skeheen side at the weekend who had never been to an intermediate final before and are not long up to intermediate level. Hard to fathom how Ballingarry didnt win that one. Might take them a while to get back up judging by that. Killenaule were desperate against St Marys. They had some big names playing against us in junior A yesterday. Cannot understand what Jimmy Feehan and others are doing playing that grade or if they are happy to play at a lower grade in hurling and concentrate on football. Nothing special at all about the St Marys team. It was a putrid game. Mullinahone still relying on a 44 year old Paul Curran to marshall their defense probably tells you where they are at. One of the great white hopes Morrisson plays for a team who dont give a shite about hurling and were hockeyed in south intermediate semi final this year.Overall I cant recall another time where south hurling was at such a low ebb.

I think thatās a bit kneejerk in places. Skeheen arenāt too bad, we had an offday, Iād be confident weāll be there or thereabouts at the end of the year barring major injuries. Swan and Killenaule the same, they should improve and I think both are more concerned with the county championship these days. Mullinahone have loads of lads on county underage teams the last few years. Iām not as familiar with St Marys but great win for them and theyāve some brilliant young hurlers as well.
I also just think the depth in Tipperary hurling is very strong, although not necessarily at the top level. Taking intermediate, which is junior in reality, at least 12 of the 16 teams will be very well prepared and most have 1 or 2 top class forwards. Like I would say we are a better team now than we were in the 5 years before we went down

Yeah iād go along with that. Could say the same for a lot of junior teams as well. There is definitely a lot better spread of talent across many divisions and levels than before and you can see a lot of teams this year rural and urban able to field 2 adult teams for the first time. There is probably more players playing hurling in the county than ever before.
Thereās over 4k adult male players in Tipperary according to the 5 Year Development Plan released last week.
According to the census thereās roughly 16k males in the county between 18-35 so around 25% of that age bracket are active players which is some going.
In most rural parishes if you are in that age bracket and not hurling you would be considered a bit of a pariah and might as well not exist at all

Weāve 3 teams this year for the first time but most of the Junior Cs wouldnāt be in the 18-35 age bracket
