Ah here.
Actually I agree with this as a neutral.
On second viewing I note that Dowling’s stroke was away from the goal area implying he’d no intention to play the ball. Superb refereeing.
I think there was a real hope that he would become a leader in the Tipperary forwards. He actually had the ball in hand a lot today and had McCarthy in trouble. Striking and decision making was poor though.
Any examples? Thought he was harsh enough on us, particularly reluctant to give frees to our forwards
McCarthy often looks beat, but rarely is.
I thought Bonnar’s finish for the goal was superb with Tom Condon up on his back.
What happened for the second tipp goal? Who lost Ryan?
The wing back seemed to standing about 15 yards off and was then surprised/upset when Ryan received the pass and goaled.
He had him on the ropes alright but McCarthy seemed to get out of jail a few times. Callinan=choker
@Fagan ODowd @flattythehurdler, expand a bit on thoughts on the ref. we got a lot of frees, mostly deserved I though. Did Kelly give a yellow at one stage to a Tipp player for a clear strike with the hurl? I’m equivocal about the disallowed goal, the rules are possibly on his side but I still think it is a ridiculous call -had the roles been reversed and Maher disrupted Dowling from catching the same ball it would be called good defending and he would in his dick have given a 21 for it. Luckily we were good enough to beat tipp by 5 and so it didn’t affect the outcome.
I’m unequivocal. The rules are on his side so it’s a foul. Refs always blow it when they see it but generally a defender comes from behind(ahoy) under a high ball so maybe it’s easier to mask it when they do it.
Ah for fuck sake. Ye got 1-9 from frees. Tipp got 0-4.
In a relatively unusual GAA event Seamus Callinan actually proved his critics right today.
Maybe Tipp should have fouled less so?
Dont be stupid, trips, pulled jerseys etc should be allowed, contesting ball with the full back who then drops it shouldnt be though

Agree on McCarthy but Callanan had a serious amount of possession. He caught one great one over his shoulder in the 2nd half, think it was the one he sent back out to Bubbles.
Martin Callinan would have been more use. Knows how to lead an attack against opponents of the boys in blue. Not afraid to pull a few dirty strokes either.
Your some Tipp man slating one of our players like that… Callinan was well marked but still scored two from play… What do people expect him to do?
The game was lost at midfield where we were totally destroyed by Browne and Ryan. Shane McGrath simply doesn’t have the stamina anymore to play I/C hurling for 70 minutes. Bergin not in it at all. Woodlock was badly missed.
The backs were far too lackadaisical about clearing the dangerzone. Paudie Maher needs to command the square better and forget about the fancy stuff. Taking off Barry was crazy and a poor error of judgement from O’Shea. Was reasonably solid without being spectacular. A fine debut from Barrett, a small positive on a dark day for Tipp hurling.
Great argument Fagan, you certainly proved me wrong
The general feeling in the 1st half was that Limerick’s frees seemed to be a lot more easy won. Would need to watch it again though.
Shane McGrath won a lot of the high ball that came down in front of the half back line.
