It was Bill who dropped Drew Bledsoe for an unknown 6th rounder, to much criticism all the same. The tuck rule changed both their lives forever when you really look back on it
He didn’t tho. Bledsoe got injured and Brady took his spot. They went on a good run and when Bledsoe was fit to resume, Bill didn’t put him back in. You could argue then the championship against the Steelers when Brady then got injured that Bledsoe might hold the position then, but Bill left it for Brady who had played all the season. Bledsoe had just signed a huge deal too, so it made sense from an operational view to have a rookie wages player winning out rather than a big cap space player.
Bill was under huge pressure at the time. It was already a controversial appointment after what went on at the jets and he had a losing season and didn’t look like it would get any better. Everyone will argue who needed who more. Brady’s record speaks for itself, but Bill without Brady is not a great record. Either way, I think it was a case of needing each other, and Kraft too. Any 3 of those links missing and I don’t think they get to 9 Superbowls and win 6
