My mother always said that you could only drink so much before you fell down and everybody knew you were langers
You can gamble everything away and people will be oblivious to it.

Either way it doesn’t matter which affects more people, gambling is a massive scourge on Irish society

I’d say they looked class

Well with all due respect you’ve clearly never had a serious addiction.

It’s a crutch for other issues. I would sum up addiction as being like a life bhoy…… you find something that stimulates/ distracts you and you hang onto it for dear life.

having some sort of “disorder” is a badge of honour these days, preferably anxiety/mental health as it garners maximum likes on the socials and opens avenues to monetize it for the like of Bressie etc, in fact It’s almost compulsory to have a mental health “issue”

Gambling, drink, cigarettes. Don’t forget processed food. The shit we are putting in our bodies everyday is a killer and its all age groups.

I just had half a box of roses and a coffee in bed and now I’m probably non binary

Yeah theres a modern breed who as you say wear it like a badge of honour… they can’t be genuine addicts…
merson deffo wasn’t banging his drum about how well he’s done, you could tell he’s still living with the struggle from day to day. He carries a lot of shame and There needs to be a bit of shame associated with addiction as that is part of the healing process.

I blame Robert Palmer for promoting the fad of addictions.

Lads trying to feel a spiritual void with food or running or booze or Marxist agitation.

The developmental part as opposed to the educational part of the Irish schooling system has a lot to answer for.

Not an addiction but my mental health hasn’t been great at points down the years. The first thing is ownership. It’s shit but only you can get out of it.

I know what you’re saying… personal responsibility is prob the most important aspect.
I’ve had experience with addiction and Ive studied it to an extent. It’s a strange one because when you’re in the throes of addiction there doesn’t seem to be a way out. You can do so much yourself but would really need support to drag you out of it. You’d need people around to give you a reality check and be completely honest with you.

Oh I agree when addiction hits support is needed.

I suppose I’m coloured by folk I know who say they are depressed and as a result throw their hands up in the air and blame it for them doing nothing with their lives and scrounging off their relatives. Who am I to say whether they are depressed or not but they are never going to improve with a victim poor me mentality.

I got the impression at stages in the interview that Merson was blaming the addiction and not his own behaviour but I could be wrong on that.

This Cunt wouldnt pick a field of stones worth a shite

Has to have been from Waterford. I’d say east of Tramore.

He looked like the kind of lad that would ask questions

Not Tommys best one,its fair to say.

I’d know his younger brother and his sister. Don’t really know him. From the city. He was a world champion at some point with kettle bells how ever you go about that.
I didn’t see last night but he is supposed to be fairly sound. This stone lifting seems to be a weird one I heard he was writing a book on it too? Not sure if that came up last night.
