Tony Grealish RIP

sad news

Shite, we were only talking about him at the weekend. His mother was a neighbour of ours. She is still going strong running a pub in London and a local who is working nearby has struck up a friendship with her. He had reported back only a week ago that Tony was not well but we did not know it was that close.

ould fell a always spoke highly of him, capatained brighton i think in the 83 cup final and played a decent bunch of games for ireland - RIP

was at the replay of that game- pity Brighton didnt do it- Gordon Smith ex hun missed a sitter in the first game

Grealish is an irish legend

RIP Tony.
Talented at Gaelic football as well as soccer.

Sad news indeed. Tony never gave less than 100% in an Irish jersey. He mightn’t have been the most talented player to ever grace the Irish midfield, but I doubt anyone tried harder. RIP.

Ah I’m very sorry to hear that. Seem to remember him putting in a tremendous performance against England in Wembley around 1980/81? (or am I imagining this?).

RIP Tony, you owe us nothing.

The late Republic of Ireland soccer midfielder Tony Grealish came from a GAA background.

Born in Paddington, London, to Irish parents, Tony had the distinction of playing both soccer and gaelic football at Wembley (he captained Brighton in the 1983 FA Cup final).

Tony’s father Packie was originally from the Galway hurling stronghold of Athenry and was a founder member of the St Gabriel’s club in London.

Before going on to win 45 international caps for Ireland, Grealish would have lined out for St Gabriels and London as a young man.

His cousin John scored the winning goal for the Gabriels in last year’s county SHC final and Tony’s brother Brian also represented the Exiles on the senior intercounty stage.

Bit of useless information , Tony is the uncle of musician Example.

What did he die of, cancer?

Very sad to hear of his passing. Would be of the generation who remember Tony playing for our country. RIP

I know he’s going to miss him.
