Any recommendations for a restaurant in Dublin (south city centre) of a Saturday evening?
Monty’s of katmandu
Pickle Camden St - delightful
Are those places a step up from your standard indian ?
Be more specific
Yes very much so
Have any of ye been to hang dai (or something) on Camden street? I’ve heard good things.
Over rated. Place is a bit cramped.
Gimmick but the duck speciality is supposed to be nice. Bought a voucher for a mates wife’s 40th and the tunes were pumping as they dined. Wouldn’t be my cup of tea while grubbing.
Dinner with the wife before heading out for drinks. Any type of cuisine acceptable but probably wouldn’t be bothered with anywhere too stuffy.
If you like Indian pickle is great. It got a brilliant review in one of the papers this week so might be hard to get a reservation.
I ate in Doolally last week. New press up group place. Also Indian. Reviews were iffy but it was very good. Huge place and a grand spot to start a night. You can book via open table so no need to speak to anybody either.
Gotham Cafe on South Anne St is always reliable.

Woah, woah, woah…let’s slow down here.
You bought your mate’s wife a restaurant voucher for her 40th?
@TreatyStones - The Pigs Ear on Nassau Street is very good. Trocadero (as recommended here before) is also as good a place as you’d find in the South City Centre and it doesn’t court social media influencer cunts like many places do now. Both places operating for many years in the area for a very good reason.
The Vintage Kitchen
I see a lot of mentions online about need to booking this place well in advance, how far ahead would you need to be booking for a Saturday night ?
A year.
Well depends on size of your party.
I’d say 5-6 months if just the two of ye. Worth going for lunch instead if it suits - food is of equal quality. Great spot. Thought I read recently the chef/owner were opening a similar place uptown in a bigger venue.
Dublin based foodies @Spidey and @Fagan_ODowd i’m looking for a nice restaurant for dinner for two on a weekday evening, i’ve some business to attend to in the Drumcondra area and if there was anything nice around there it would be preferred than heading into the big smoke with my car during rush hour traffic. Or is Drumcondra almost city centre anyway? I haven’t a breeze about Dublin.
Shouk in drumcondra gets good press but I wasn’t impressed when in there for lunch a few weeks ago.
