Top 10 Irish Restaurants (that spidey visited in a week )
mac, bon appetit says the cost of maintaining a michellin star is too prohibitive so will change their menu

views?
The Michelin Star was devalued in Ireland by that place on the canal getting one and then losing it just as quickly. Quality restaurants don’t need the ‘prestige’ of a Michelin Star to survive. Look at the likes of One Pico and Bistro One as an example. Quality restaurants serving high quality food and don’t need a ‘star’ to attract people. Bon Appetit will always struggle because of location so probably makes sense for them to lose it. The positive will be that you’ll have no Michelin snobs ruining your meal and it’ll return to being a place that locals will take pride in.

Only took in the early bird menu.
She has fish cakes & cod for main. I had the potato & leek soup & Steak. Tasty stuff in fairness. Desserts were very nice.

It’s just a members club at this stage, plenty of fine restaurants in the country that offer up better food and service than some of the Michelin Stars. Went for dinner in L’ecrivain a while back and it was average at best. One of the party who was pregnant asked if they had any alcohol free cocktails and they offered her a Rock Shandy

Two fish dishes? She could be a carpet muncher, bro.

[food snob]I’ve eaten in about 12-15 Michelin Star restaurants around Europe over the last 4-5 years. [/food snob] Apart from Chapter One, and possibly The Cliff House, the ones in Ireland are all a bit meh in comparison to their European counterparts. They’ve a stuffiness about them that you’d expect from a private schools old boys reunion. Maybe its just an Irish thing but it tends to be completely different in the likes of Spain or Portugal - much more relaxed and enjoyable experience.

Fish is good for you, kid. Yurt.

We went to one just outside Sorrento on our honeymoon a few years ago and it was a fantastic experience from start to finish, nothing like the pretentiousness you experience here. The chef made up a cake especially for us and the night finished up with a tour of their wine cellar. I’m sure they’re used to honeymooners there and know how to pamper them but I couldn’t imagine getting anything like that treatment here.

The rooms in the Merrion must be unreal because the hotel itself is meh enough. They are doing a big expansion there at the minute, so they are obviously getting the biz.

Surprised by the international. Stayed there this year and while its a lovely hotel it’s nothing special. I’d say it’s as much value for money as anything as it was very reasonable versus others in Killarney.

Fill the blanks on farmers list above…

Hayfield Manor is very nice but ridiculously expensive considering it’s plonked in behind the UCC car park

Killarney Park is a fine hotel, prefer the Malton next door though (both same owners)

The Dunloe is superb iv been at two weddings there. Only gripe is that both times got room with two singles “tied” together. Poor from such a nice hotel. But not uncommon in hotels that get huge tour business

Never been in the International in killarney.

It’s an odd list. Throwing likes of Ballygarry which is a grand hotel with a huge wedding trade in with the likes of Adare Manor etc. River Lee is top notch but a business hotel really.

Notable omissions Sheen Falls in Kenmare, Knockranny house in Westport, hotel Europe in Killarney

This is Trip Advisor list based on reviews. Mainly middle income earners who will nit pick at every single iota of a problem. A lot of 5 star hotels won’t make it onto the list as they don’t have enough reviews and people go into it with higher expectations than the likes of a River Lee hotel for example.

Most of the reviews on trip advisor appear to have been written by people with Aspergers.

That’s what’s confusing me. There are 6x 5 stars on the list. Fionn Davenport was on about tripadvisor on the radio one day…he said filter out all the five star reviews as they are probably written by the hotel the filter out the one star reviews as they are written by lunatics and make your decision based on what’s left!!!

Killarney Park hotel is a great spot. Fantastic service without the pretentiousness

lovely tapas in the Market Bar, Dundalk. Just before we reached the venue we encountered a fellow who might have been a local or may have been a vagrant, who loudly started extolling the virtues of the wooden pallet he had under his arm. What made him so pleased was that the pallet had been just lying unattended but now HE had it he could cut it up and that sort off a thing.

Been there twice for lunch and for dinner but it is two or three years back. My review would be out of date.

I was at a city of culture event in the hotel last summer. I like the ambience there

Was in Sophie’s in the dean again tonight. Nice looking place but food is average

Bill Cullen and his other half were there.

Strange client mix of business suits and girls in their twenties. Downstairs bar was empty but restaurant was really busy
