Ate there in Enoteca D’Asti on Jones Road tonight. Mick Wallaces place. Very good I thought. Had Melanzana Parmigiana followed by an Affogato.
I ate in Whitefriar Grill last night and thoroughly enjoyed the 16 oz rib eye steak. It was sublime and one of the best steaks I’ve had in Dublin. Not a hint of any tin foil sticking to it either. I had a tasty rabbit dish to start while my lady friend was impressed with her brie and veal selections.
We retired to their new place next door for a couple of post dinner drinks having shared a bottle of Malbec with our food. The bar is called Bow Lane - it was formerly a traditional local whose name I can’t recall, it only opened last weekend, insists upon itself a bit but it’s a nice lay-out, wasn’t too packed and seems a decent date type place.
What way did you have your steak cooked buddy?
On the medium-rare side of medium, mate.
You had a pound of steak?
My life partner has a milestone birthday coming up in the new year. Was thinking of taking her for a rosemantic meal somewhere. Any recommendations? Anyone ever been to the Greenhouse?
It’s very nice, in a cold austere Scandinavian kind of a way, Big Mick. Think the Ravenous thread filmed by Ingmar Bergman.
Great value for lunch as well. Have a read of the menu though before you book to see if there’s anything on it that ye’d eat.
Holyhead is lovely this time of year
Greenhouse is nice. Would you keep it local and go Bon Appetit?
When I was a kid, sweet sixteen was the same as any other birthday really.
Made my Sunday brunch debut in Angelina’s today. I was exceedingly hungry after a delightful cycle/walk combination out to Poolbeg Lighthouse and back which took a couple of hours. The positives were the food - it was excellent - and the venue - it looks the part but it’s cosy too. My French Toast was splendid.
Had to wait ages for food though - the waitress toddled over to tell us our order had been misplaced just when we were about to query what was going on. But she gave us complimentary drinks and apologised profusely so that was fine. Service seemed a bit slack - the table next to us were waiting a very long time after asking for their bill and then received the wrong one. They appeared to be chasing after themselves a bit.
It’ll be a lovely venue in summer on the terrace at the weekend to have a coffee and read Gavin Cummiskey’s musings in The Irish Times sport section.
Is the terrace on the banks of the Canal? I’ve seen it from the other side of the canal and thought to myself that it looked very nice.
Yes, just further down from the Milano terrace at the bridge.
Headed to Coppinger Row tonight with my life partner. Anyone been before?
I have. Food is decent enough but not outstanding. Fairly lengthy spirits menu if memory serves me right. Ridiculous amount of different types of Gin I think.
Hope you both have a lovely evening.
Was there recently enough. Was nice food, nothing amazing but nothing at all wrong with it. Think I got a rib eye and it was lovely. Missus got guinea fowl which was also very tasty. Place is a bit tight in there is the only thing
Do they have mash on the menu?
I sure hope so as I never cook mash at home so I enjoy treating myself to some creamy mash when out.
Hanoi Hanoi wasn’t bad
Dined in the renowned ML Chinese restaurant there on Cathedral Street tonight. I had an outstanding bit of grub to be fair. I will be back.
And again last night. Absolutely outstanding Venison. This is 1 of Ireland’s hidden gems.
