Macguire food is top notch but rooms are… meh.

Gregans has a good rep for food. Not sure about rooms.

Cliff House looks and sounds fantastic.

Where are you coming from?

Limerick i’d guess.
Easier get to Dublin than Waterford from Limerick

It’s about 4 hours from limerick to blacklion

If it was, he could go all out and fly Shannon to Heathrow, head to either the Waterside Inn or Fat Duck in Bray, only 20 mins from the airport. Organise a private transfer.

Expensive but worth every penny. Might even spot the non celeb Michel Roux.

We’d be going from Limerick city, Nevens is a trek but it has come very highly recommended by somebody else who took a similar trip, we’d be leaving in the morning, stopping for lunch and a bit of shopping somewhere, listening to good music (which we can’t do with the kids), I quite enjoy driving so it’s not a huge deal.
Same on the way back, we have considered the UK Mac but there’s a fair few places in Ireland that we haven’t got to.

If you’re gonna splash out and really mark the occasion with something you’ll never forget the UK option should be considered. They do it properly over there. You can go to Dublin anytime and you’ll probably have some roaster at the table next to you who has no appreciation for proper food (not saying I do) and will probably complain at the standard of chips on offer.

Either way, enjoy it. 20 years is some milestone.

Cliff house was not up to expectations when I was there. Nice hotel but food was only ok for what I cost. Possibly caught them on a bad night which can happen to be fair.

So many good spots in Dublin I’d head up there. Guilbauds is nice but stuffy. Forest Avenue or Greenhouse decent alternatives.

Last meal on earth I would go to Forest Avenue personally. Casual enough as well

The Cliff House is superb, and the restaurant is absolutely top notch. You’d want to be getting one of the suites though to get full value for your stay

Having said that the Merrion is a super spot as well. I could take or leave Guilbauds to be honest. The prices for dinner are taking the piss. 45 euro for a starter would start to eat into anyone’s enjoyment fairly quickly. You’d be better off having a leisurely stroll to the Greenhouse or Forest Avenue or getting a taxi to Chapter One, if you could get a booking.

Mate I would highly recommend the Roxford Lodge in Ballsbridge. Book the executive suite, it’s expensive but it’s fucking class. A jacuzzi & sauna in the room. The other rooms are ok, but you’d really want the suite to mark the occasion.
You’d be only around the corner from the chophouse and a few other top notch restaurants.

Saw that earlier, pal. I’d never be eating in Ferns but Lotus House is a longstanding Chinese restaurant and takeaway.

Ate in San Lorenzos few weeks ago - very big meh. All style no substance.
A well respected grubber has claimed the best steak in Dublin is to be found in Nicos on Dame St. One for the notebook.

It’s not a top restaurant. But it is as old as the hills. It’s the first place I ever brought a young lady to dinner. We both had minestrone soup followed by spaghetti Bolognese washed down with a bottle of Mateus Rosé. That would have been considered a classy night out in those times.

Nothing wrong with it mate.

No - me neither. The owner is minted and nearly runs it as a hobby apparently. Don’t think they bother opening for lunch either.

Featherblade does a fine steak.

It fits in with the new style of Dublin eatery which only seems to want to cook one thing but at least in this case it happens to be steak.
Extremely competitively priced (€13 for a 12oz) and then 3.50 for sides…
