He got no call off of a number that could have been the Monk all day, and his phone was once, briefly, in range of the park.
It’s clear now what happened is he was on his way to the park, left his phone in a taxi, and then proceeded to bump into the Monk who was in a bizarrely confessional mood that day

That was a completely farcical line of questioning. It was like Lionel Hutz. " So it coouuulld have been the monk?"
Yet RTE decide to lead with the least likely option of those presented to the court.
It was fascinating to watch
An outsider would think the murder victim was some sort of Mother Theresa such is the gurn on them to find a guilty party. The perp should get a medal.

The states case for murder is fairly lightweight, and seems build entirely on:
Cllr Dowdalls evidence and the taped conversations in the car
Will the Judges believe the SF man?
are the prosecution actually arguing that the monk was in the regency and fired shots at the now deceased?
I’d say hutch has a super chance of walking free, dowdall is totally unreliable.
The charge is murder, nothing else. Not conspiracy, not manslaughter, assisting others or anything else. Straight up ‘he was there, pulled the trigger’.
With the burden of proof beyond a reasonable doubt resting with the prosecution, Gerry is as good as free given what has been presented in court.
But this is the Special Criminal Court and Gerry is going to jail.

They need a few months to concoct a reason to convict him

People will have forgotten the overwhelming evidence in favour of an innocent verdict.
