any of you lads enter this. have done few entries for the past few years. was in 18th place overall prior to beginning of cheltenham last year. alas i ended up in the 100s.
great racing in prospect this weekend. see that tidal bay has being given trhe green light to take on masterminded in tingle creek.
this is going to be very interesting. while masterminded is undoubtably a very good horse i dont think he deserves his rating as the best horse in training. an analogy i would draw would be to hawk wings performance in lockinge a few years ago. very visably impressive on the eye but never equaled thereafter.
i left masterminded out of my lists in favour of tidal bay as my 2m chaser so hoping im justified on saturday.
Old Pumpkin Head Nicholls deserves no luck after his lack of loyalty to Sam ThomasâŚfollowing in a long tradition of shafting his jockeys Timmy Murphy, Liam Heard, Colman SweeneyâŚ
certainly was. kauto out injured for rest of year afterwards, whether ruby getting back up contributed to theinjury is debatable. im sure nichols told him not to do it again
Yes, he fell with Ruby at Exeter and the horse turned out to be injured, Rubyâs John Wayne effort ensured the horse had to be roughed off for eleven months after forcing an injured horse complete the course.
ya watched that race. The best makes mistakes I guess. Would be interested to hear SS** what you think of Noel Meade as a trainer. Perennial Cheltenham bottler?
Thomas presented the horse perfectly at the fence but the horse himself just knuckled over, nothing he could do about that. With all the know it alls in the Racing Post giving him stick about it, he has lost his confidence. This, together with greedy Nicholls hammering the nails in, has shattered this young manâs confidence.
You wouldnt see Josh Gifford do this, how many times did Bob Champion fcuk up when he came back from cancer, typically a few greedy owners kicked up over it and Gifford told them to take their horses away if they didnât want Champion to ride their horses. Fat Nicholls has no class.
i am a big fan of noel meade. his horses are always trying and know their job. a true friend to the punter.
having said that its amazing the number of soft/bridle horses that he produces. whether its the way they are trained or the type of horses he purchases is debatable.
one of the reasons he does so poorly at chelt considering the ammo he has is that his horses peaked around xmas i.e. too early. this can be contrasted with the approach of willie mullins and edward oâgrady sho are past master at getting their horses to peak for spring festivals of cheltenham, aintree and punchestown.
Yeah itâs very hard to know, no question heâs a top trainer but it must be a source of regret that he hasnât transferred it to Mecca. Sausilito Bay is all I can recall off the top of my head, very unlucky with Hill Society and Tiennamen Square (famously smashed the windscreen of his car with his binoculars with frustration after that one).
It is amazing how many of his horses are soft bridle types, it surely must be something to do with the way theyâre trained. That Mick The Man was a real frustrating type last year for him, heâs gone to Colm Murphy now but hasnât had a change of luck since.
Noel probably turns his horses out better than any trainer in Ireland. He horses nearly always look very, very well, in contrast to some trainers who seem intent on starving their charges.

mark my words. mick the man will win a very big handicap this year once he gets good ground and a furious pace. county hurdle maybe.
Had seen Nicanor in the flesh twice before then at Navan and Leopardstown. He hit the majority of hurdles in both races. Paul Carberry wasnt on him either that day in Chelt afaik.
Just think if Dessie Hughes had the resources Meade has he could threaten Nicholls.
What ever happened to that horse Oâ Muircheartaigh. Watched him win his bumper in Cork by a field and then won a novice hurdle race in Navan (same day as Nicanor, Moscow Flyer was beaten the same day by Central House). Was well beaten at Cheltenham and I havenât heard of him since.
[quote=âKIB manâ]Had him laid that day. A very painful experience.

He won a decent handicap chase last christmas, but hasnât really done much else (and has been in plenty of races). Went in the Kerry National this year but didnât make it around.

nicanor was beating by bobs hall (trained by wachman at time) over inadequate 2 miles prior to cheltenam. not giving the best of rides by slippers that day, think it was navan?. it is still one of my biggest regrets that i didânt back him that day. was after doing my nut and it was damage limitation. was hard to oppose denman aswell but really thought that nicanor was an ew good thing. damn:rolleyes:
oâmuircheataig is owned by oâgradyâs mum. won his bumper well and went off crazy price for royal bond and was stuffed. a decent enough handicap chaser these days.
