British actress Natasha Richardson has died from injuries sustained in a skiing accident, her husband Liam Neesonā€™s publicist has said.
Richardson, 45, who was a member of the Redgrave family, fell on a beginnersā€™ slope at the Mont Tremblant resort in Canada on Monday.
Neeson said that the family were devastated by the death of their ā€œbeloved Natashaā€.
She died in a New York hospital where she had been transferred.
Richardson initially showed no sign of injury after the incident but about an hour later she was taken to a nearby hospital after feeling unwell. It was later confirmed her injuries were critical.
Neeson, 56, her mother, Oscar-winning actress Vanessa Redgrave, 72, and two sons, Michael, 13, and Daniel, 12, had gathered at her beside after she was flown from Canada to Lenox Hill Hospital in New York on Tuesday.
Alan Nierob, Neesonā€™s publicist, said: "Liam Neeson, his sons, and the entire family are shocked and devastated by the tragic death of their beloved Natasha.
ā€œThey are profoundly grateful for the support, love and prayers of everyone, and ask for privacy during this very difficult time.ā€
Richardson starred on film and TV but won most acclaim for her stage work.

Sad times ahead for Liam Nesson and his two sons.

Thatā€™s desperate. I was just reading his interview in the IT magazine last week. Sounded like an idyllic family life they had.

Shocking sad news this. My thoughts are with the big fella.

Heroin is a terrible thing.

:frowning:

I knew Natasha myself, well that might be stretching things a little, she filmed Widows Peak in my home village of Inistioge in 1993,she was resident in the place for around 3 Weeks of filming and i spoke to her a few times, she was 30 then and a class bit of stuff to look at,tough thing to happen, always wear a helmet might be the lesson from this, tough on Liam Neeson, hes nearly everybodys favourite Irish actor.

I knew her well too. Saw a picture of her on the TV yesterday.

tradegy circumstanceā€¦ but the fall must of triggered an underlying problemā€¦

No. Thats not it.

Fears were expressed that an opportunity to save her in the vital ā€˜golden hourā€™ after the accident had been missed after she refused medical help following her fall.

The mother of two, who was not wearing a helmet, hit the left side of her face tearing a blood vessel in the brain, which would start as a slow leak and later prove fatal.
But initially she appeared unhurt and got up laughing. Unaware of the serious injury, she refused to see a doctor and even signed a medical form saying that she did not need help.
Brain injury experts said yesterday that if the star had agreed to see a doctor, her injury may have been picked up earlier on a scan and she could have had life-saving surgery to stop the bleed in her brain before it worsened.
Medics also said wearing a helmet could have absorbed the impact of her fall and prevented the serious head injury.

Jaysis. Now thatā€™s a bad way to go.

Most people go skiing without helmets. Seems like a load of ā€œexpertsā€ are now using this tragedy as an opportunity to take a potshot at those who donā€™t wear helmets.

Iā€™d agree Mac. This was just a tragic accident, but one that should be used to highlight the necessity to go for check ups when it comes to any form of head injury.

agreed ā€¦ it will also lead to ski schools insisting on beginners especially wearing helmets on the slopesā€¦ it awful to think that a tradegy has to happen before simple things are put in place

Sad story. I must start wearing a bicycle helmet when Iā€™m in the pub just to be safe from now on.

By all accounts you have a head/neck that couldnt be broken bando.

Poor Neeson, heā€™ll be on the piste for a while to get over this

Liam Neeson has spoken of how the US reaction to his wifeā€™s death helped him decide to become an American citizen.
The actor said he was still a proud Irishman but the warmth from well wishers on the other side of the Atlantic prompted him to seek citizenship.
His wife, the actress Natasha Richardson, died in March after what first appeared to be a minor fall while skiing in Canada.

Appearing on ABCā€™s Good Morning America, Neeson said he and the coupleā€™s two sons were ā€˜doing goodā€™ five months on from the tragic accident.
ā€˜To be honest, we are taking each day as it comes,ā€™ he added.
The 57-year-old actor said he was still getting extraordinary letters of condolences from people in America.
ā€˜That is partly the reason why Iā€™ve recently become an American citizen,ā€™ Neeson said, adding: ā€˜Iā€™m still a proud Irishman, of course, but Iā€™ve become an American citizen - Iā€™m very proud of that.ā€™
He also paid tribute to Edward Kennedy, revealing the veteran senator had written to him following the death of Richardson.
'I met him a couple of times, and he wrote my family a very beautiful, touching condolence letter when Natasha died. It is the end of an era.
ā€˜I have a very clear memory of being a 10-year-old boy and being taken to the ancestral Kennedy homestead in Ireland and posing for a photograph underneath the gable of their home with the American flag and the Irish flag up there on the gable.ā€™

Shocked that Neeson doesnā€™t know the difference between an adjective and an adverb
