Transfer Window - Summer 2008

Heskey got a tough time at Liverpool. In his first full season he scored a lot of goals - granted he didn’t replicate that level afterwards but his attitude was always good unlike idiots such as Diouf and Cisse. Wouldn’t be a bad signing for Spurs but Steve Bruce is someone who digs his heels in when he doesn’t want to sell someone.

Speaking of Wigan - was watching highlights of them yesterday and their left sided midfielder Palacios in particular as he has been linked to Liverpool. Thought he destroyed Bosingwa but seemed to be taken off towards the end so I don’t know how he did for tne entire match. Bruce apparently said that it would take more than the Gareth Barry asking price for him to sell.

it was rumoured towards the end of last season that (sir)alex ferguson was interested in palacios and the other equadorian lad valencia…in fairness the two of them have settled very well in the premiership and get very little credit…

not sure has this been posted danni has joined zenit for 30 million - i never even heard of him

Locke mentioned it earlier but I’ve never heard of this chap either. He’s 25-years old and has only just made his Portuguese debut. Here’s what uefa.com says about it:

FC Zenit St. Petersburg have broken the Russian transfer record by signing 25-year-old Portugal midfielder Danny from FC Dinamo Moskva for €30m.

‘Best midfielder’
Danny’s transfer shatters the previous highest fee in Russian football, which Dinamo themselves set with the €16m purchase of another Portuguese international midfielder, Maniche, from FC Porto in May 2005. Zenit, who have not disclosed details on the length of Danny’s contract, have been chasing the Venezuelan-born playmaker for the past two months and coach Dick Advocaat was delighted to have finally got his man. “We’ve been interested in Danny for a while now,” he said. “I consider him the best midfielder in the Russian league and he can become a very useful member of our team. I see Danny as an attacking midfielder or winger.”

International debut
Danny, who moved to Portugal when he was 15, made his international debut as a substitute in the 5-0 friendly defeat of the Faroe Islands last Wednesday. He joined Dinamo in 2005 from Sporting Clube de Portugal and the former CS Martimo academy product quickly adapted to life in Russia. He has scored 16 goals in 97 Premier-Liga games and made his final appearance for Dinamo in their 1-1 draw with city rivals FC Spartak Moskva on Saturday.

Arshavin speculation
Advocaat denied that Danny’s arrival would pave the way for the departure of forward Andrei Arshavin, whose future has been the subject of much speculation. “No, because Andrei is still with Zenit, and I am still not sure if he is going away,” Advocaat said. The Dutchman led Zenit to their first European trophy in May when they defeated Rangers FC in the UEFA Cup final. They play Manchester United FC in the UEFA Super Cup final in Monaco on Friday and will compete in the UEFA Champions League for the first time after winning the Premier-Liga last season.

Fooking hell.

Sky Sports are reporting that Milan are signing Philip Senderos.

Sheva has said goodbye to the Chelsea fans, destination Milan

Hope he rediscovers the form he once had. Didn’t work out for him in England but he never complained and constantly was trying and working hard whenever he had pitch time. I’d love to see him doing well again.

Everton finally sign someone!

dont know anything about him though. rock did he impress in your reviews of the bundesliga? the real mystery is why tiago & rieira are opposed to joining a club with the tradition of everton?

Everton manager David Moyes will end the long wait for a summer signing after striking a deal to bring Denmark international Lars Christian Jacobsen to Goodison Park.

Jacobsen, 28, was with German club Nurnberg last season but is now a free agent and he has agreed a one-year deal, with the deal subject to a medical.

Born in Odense, Jacobsen will solve one of Everton’s pressing problems in defence, with regular right-back Tony Hibbert still likely to be out for six more weeks with injury.

Jacobsen arrived on Merseyside on Monday, and had his medical at the club’s Finch Farm training base.

The deal will be officially confirmed on Tuesday when the results of his tests are known and the Dane has tied up the final details of his contract.

Moyes will hope that this is the first of several new signings this week. He had previously failed to sign a new player this summer and accepted at the weekend that Everton needed quantity as well as quality as the transfer window entered the final week.

Moyes also plans to look at several loan deals before the window closes next Monday, expressing the view that he needs “six or seven” new players.

Tiago has already refused a loan move from Juventus, while winger Albert Riera is holding out for a move to Liverpool despite the Toffees meeting the 12million asking price of Espanyol.

Everton have Tim Cahill, Steven Pienaar and Hibbert still some way short of fitness after injuries, although Victor Anichebe will be back in the fold this week after winning at Olympic silver with Nigeria.

Since last summer Thomas Gravesen, Andrew Johnson, Stefan Wessels, Manuel Fernandes, Anthony Gardner, Lee Carsley, Jamie Jones and Darren Dennehy have all left the Everton pay-roll without being replaced.

Jacobsen can expect a clutch of new faces to join him at Everton this week.

He won three Danish titles with Copenhagen, and had interested Everton in 2006 before moving to Hamburg.

His spell with Nuremberg was hit by injuries, and he did not figure in the UEFA Cup tie against the Toffees last season.

When Nuremberg were relegated from the Bundesliga last season, he was given a free transfer and has now landed a move to the Premier League.

I’ve never even seen him play I don’t think CCC1. Didn’t make much of an impression at all.

Riera has obviously experienced life in the shadow with Espanyol and is weary of repeating the process in a new city. Don’t think the gulf is anything like the same scale though.

Riera also turned out in the blue of Man City. Why would anyone sign for Everton when Liverpool are interested?

what r u implying mbb?! liverpool are shit.

I’m implying nothing. Liverpool may be shit, but they are less shit than Everton.

Good signing imo, Keane starting to make some good moves with Diouf Cisse and Rio Jr

Sunderland were closing in on the signing of West Ham defender Anton Ferdinand today as he arrived on Wearside.

The England U-21 international was set to undergo medical tests, with manager Roy Keane confident of landing a player who could cost Sunderland around 8m.

Keane said: “Anton is up today for a medical and we hope to get that tied up today.”

Haven’t seen enough of him to really rate him one way or the other. Locke seems happy to get rid of him from West Ham. What sort of defender is he? Rioesque or is he more burly?

Resembles a less talented younger Rio, ie, when he had the skills, but was far to laid back and didnt work hard enough at the game. I’d say pre Leeds Rio or maybe just post signing for Leeds Rio.

I think he has the raw materials, jsut needs to be clattered around a bit. Worth a punt imo, far better prospect than slow arse McShane.

Anthony Stokes - Sunderland to Sheff Wed on loan.

He’s a fucking waster! Played his heart out the first season we were up then did fuck all the 2nd season and we nearly went down. Baby Bentley driving cunt! Let him up to Keano if he wants him.

better prospect than ‘rush around looking like your doing stuff’ McShane, but still wouldnt rated Rio jnr. Seems to have the same cocky mentality without backing it up. Fair play to West Ham for getting 8m tho, that is daylight robbery. Not worth near that. Started 20 games or so last year for West Ham and wasnt overly impressive IMO. Maybe better than McShane, but not any value in money. Keane is spending an awful lot of dough on some seriously dodgy players.

He badly needed to get out of there anyway in the short term because he’d no prospect of playing. Real pity to see him wasting his talent, and he has to take much of the blame for his attitude. People talk about the goals he scored for Falkirk as evidence that the SPL is weak but he was excellent at Falkirk and looked a genuine prospect. He was also very highly thought of while at Arsenal but he looks like becoming the next Graham Barrett now.

Good move for him. He needs regular games. Also looking at the Sunderland bench last saturday of the 7 players, there were 4 strikers! Stokes, Chopra, Cisse and Healy
