For the limerick posters.
OK lads I have come across some very obscure and intriguing trivia:-
The European Coach of the Year Award began in the 1977-1978 season. Between then and the 2015-2016 season five Englishmen have won the award. WITHOUT RESEARCHING THIS ON THE INTERNET can you name those 5?
Here are some clues-
- all 5 only won the award once; and
- all 5 won the award in its early days, when English managers briefly dominated.
As a follow up question, 7 managers have won the award twice but only 2 for 2 different clubs? Who were those 2?
Brian Clough
Bobby Robson
Both correct
Brian Clough
Bob Paisley
Tony Barton
Terry Venables
Paisley and Barton correct, that leaves 1
Ancelotti.
Graham Taylor
Won it twice but both times for AC Milan
No
Guardiola?
Otto Rehaggel
Well he might have won it recently but I only have records up to 2016. He won it once at Barcelona
Jupp Heynckes
Won it once
Marcelo Lippi
No - couldn’t be actually.
Joe Fagan
Jose Mourinho
