who was the first GAA team to wear a sponsor on their jersey?
Dublin and Kildare both had sponsors logos on their jerseys in the 1991 NFL final on May 5th. Dublin had National Irish Bank and Kildare had Pitman Moore.
The same day Wexford had Buckler on their jerseys in the NHL semi-final replay against Kilkenny in Thurles.

You just know some crowd in Longford or Wicklow had a sponsor on a jersey before 1991 though.
Buckler was savage tack.
I don’t even know what’s on the Wexford jersey now.

- Down - Kersten Hunik - sometimes abbreviated to just Kersten - nobody know who they were but they seemed to symbolise the bold iconoclastic nature of that Down team, they were new, they were cocky, they were devastating and they had a sponsor nobody had heard of but which looked cool as fuck on their jersey
- Clare - Pat O’Donnell - always there, except when he wasn’t, but he was
- Kerry - Kerry - you can’t go far wrong if your sponsor is the name of your county - even the shape of the word KERRY on a jersey looks right
- Dublin - Arnotts - the mid-1990s plain text logo was superior to the official Arnotts logo which appeared from 1998 on
- Limerick - Shaw’s Almost Nationwide - that serifed font was beautiful
- Tipperary - Finches - a sublime crescent shaped direction of text which seemed to mesh perfectly with sun kissed days in Pairc Ui Chaoimh - the 2001 jersey was a beaut
- Donegal - Magee Tailored - new colours, new sponsor, new All-Ireland champions, up yours Hogan Stand
- Armagh - Morgan Fuels - the 2002 logo with the bold white print was ICONIC even if the jersey itself wasn’t
- Cork - Barry’s Tea - the only sponsor’s logo that has ever looked right on a Cork Jersey
- Galway - Tommy Varden - always more ICONIC than its Supermac’s counterpart
You’d have to say the Kilmakud Krokes jersey with Whirlpool on the front was fairly iconic. Then they got Superquinn on their jerseys. Cunts.

Clare’s Aeroflot jersey with the Cyrillic lettering is a much sought-after collectors item these days.
I think they only wore it for the league.
