Anderson was like a dog TTK, you obviously were not watching the match
Yeah because he had to interrupt his pints to throw darts.
The Heineken Cup starts on Friday, I’ll be having plenty of match bets throughout the competition but I’m also having a few ‘long term’ bets higlighted below. I also want to back Jared Payne for top tryscorer but he’s not quoted.
Bet 140
Ulster to win the Heineken Cup 2 points e/w 20/1 numerous.
I cannot believe the price of Ulster for the HC. They are a serious side, my favourite team in world rugby. They got to the HC final last year with some massive performances and have a much much stronger squad this season. Jared Payne is back, what a talent, Tommy Bowe is back, add them to the likes of Trimble, Gilroy Cave and Wallace and you have one of the most dangerous back lines in club rugby. Paddy Jackson is coming into his own at out-half, he had a tough time of things in the final last year but has shown that his confidence wasn’t affected. Pienaar at scrum-half is just different class, arguably the best scrum-half in European club rugby at the moment. And that’s before you get to their pack. Nick Williams, Johan Muller, Chris Henry, John Afoah, Rory Best, Stephen Ferris, Dan Touhy, Tom Court. The strength and depth in their forwards is something else, pretty much all experienced internationals who work exceptionally well as a unit. They have won every game in the Rabo and are playing some really good rugby. I can see them walking their group and having a home QF, and nobody but nobody will beat them in Ravenhill. To have teams like Quins, Munster and Leicester ahead of them in the betting is farcical. I’ve had a big e/w bet on them at 25/1 and I would be annoyed if they didn’t reach the semi-final’s at a minimum. It’s 1/2 odds 1,2 so they need to get to the final to guarantee a return. That could very easily happen. SUFTUM.
Bet 141
Ulster to win Pool 4. 5 points 6/4 VC
As highlighted above they are the form team that everyone has to fear in this year’s competition. Their group consists of no-hopers Castres and Glasgow along with group favourites Northampton. How Northampton are favourites for this group I’ll never know! They are a shade of the side they once were. They have lost some key players and are woefully out of form of late (they could struggle this weekend against Glasgow!) Ulster will beat them in Franklin Gardens and Ravenhill is a given. Honestly these odds are so far out, Ulster should be odds on for the group win.
Bet 142
Toulon to win Pool 6. 5 points 1/2 numerous
I took 4/6 on this two days ago with VC, that has now dried up. If you see a bigger certainty than this please let me know. Their group consists of Cardiff, Montpellier and Sale. Toulon will go very close in this year’s competition, they have an established squad of internationals, play exciting rugby and will cut loose in some of these group games. Realistically a 1/5 shot for pool success. Not 4/6 and still not 1/2.
Bet 143
Ulster, Toulon, Biarritz to win their respective pools. 1 point trixie (4 points invested) VC
VC are best priced on the trixie here, 6/4, 1/2 and 1/1. 1 point trixie costs 4 points, returns 19.25 if all three are successful. You know why I fancy Ulster and Toulon, Biarritz are in pool 3 in a match bet with Harlequins. Connacht and Zebre make up the numbers. Biarritz could but probably won’t beat Quins this weekend. Not to worry as I still think they’ll top the group. They’ll get bonus points in the 4 games against the weaker sides and they’ll take Quins at home, hopefully with another bonus point. Quins won’t do the same, they may even struggle in the sportsgrounds against Connacht and as I’ve said before they are over-rated. It’s a very nice bet and I’ll be going in on a Biarritz single to win the group if they lose this weekend.
You’re throwing your money away on Ulster winning it out mate. Cave and Wallace is not a centre pairing that will win the Heino. Clermont v Leinster final with Clermont hopefully beating the shit out of them.
Ulster 28/1 with Youwin.
Max they would give me is €35
 If Ulster don’t trade at less than 8/1 at some stage this season come back to me and tell me I threw away my money no problem.
You think Clermont and Leinster will contest the final? You do know both of these sides are in the same group and as a result not guaranteed to make the quarters?
That’s a win only market too I think CLD?
Not a big deal. I can lay them off with Betfair if they get that far.
When e/w terms are 1/2 1,2 then it matters. If Ulster get to the semi you’d be sitting on them at 10/1 to win that game and you could lay them just in the semi match betting. They’ll get to the semis anyway, it just depends who they face in it.
Not doubting you at all ttk, but Biarritz have been poor for a while and I wouldn’t put a penny on them in the HC. They have lost their last 4 games on the spin in the Top14 and could get drawn in to a relegation battle, so I couldn’t see them prioritising Europe.
I expect that they will both come out of that group by winning 4 matches apiece with a few bonuses thrown in and they are the two best teams in the competition. Ulster are looking good so far but I can’t see them beating either of these sides in knockout if they meet.
That’s a fair observation, and I don’t think they have a prayer of winning the HC Fagan, but they could easily beat Harlequins to top spot in their pool and that’s what I’m backing them to do. They will be mid table in the top 14 absolutely no fear of relegation. They had a poor season domestically last season too but they won the Challenge Cup to qualify for the HC and were beaten in the final of this in 2010. Basically I think they have greater prospects of securing bonus points than Quins do and that is what the pool will be decided by.
Ulster would beat Clermont in Ravenhill. They did so in the group stages last season with a weaker squad.
I can only assume you haven’t seen the out half they bought in from New Zealand.
 He was at Leinster for a year. Once Yachvili stays fit they’ll be AOK. As I said I don’t see them winning in the Stoop this weekend but I think they’ll still top that group. The main bets are Ulster and Toulon, if you don’t like Biarritz, make sure you do the other two.
good luck ttk
Tempted to follow the auld bollix on this Ulster tip. I like a good big priced antepost sports wager. :strokechin:
Do it Dunph, what’s the worst that can happen? You can still despise me if they fail to progress and you can despise me a little less if they get to the final. It will also add to the forum as no doubt you will watch every Heineken Cup match possible and post your views on the rugby thread.
Me too but it’d be like backing Rangers to win something, so for that reason, I’m out
You know Yachvili is out for at least 3 months?
He just misses the first two games Fagan afaik, he’ll be back for the all important home fixture against Quins.
