TV figure. anywas

just wondering why RTengland showed united ahead of the aresnal game last night which was a more attracive for neutrals - ratings is the obvious reason . anyway i was just told by a RTE staff member that its a myth that united & liverpool will always get the highest ratings as most of the audience are neutrals - same thing in germany where bayren always get shown but last year St Paulis cup run got some of the highest figures

Who is this RTE member of staff? The toilet cleaner.

Jog on.

And his partner in crime fingalraven, he too called me a cock.

It’s a scandalous untrue allegation.

Tv ratings are flawed as it is as they are only a sample of what people are watching.

I was going to unleash some nuggets myself but instead I got abuse Shan. its shocking.

I had a guess at an obscure game because I thought by chance it may have been shown in more places than anywhere else and then I get abuse. Its uncalled for.

right train of thought flango

Dunphy was eulogising about Arsenal last night having watched the highlights of their performance and was complaining about having had to watch Liverpool and Manchester United over the two nights instead of the passing football like on show in the Arsenal/Sevilla game.

Though yet again it was RTE’s own choice to show the Manchester United game. Looking at things logically Arsenal/Sevilla was the most attractive game of the whole 8 on show last night.

Arsenal knock it around well nearly all the time and they’re in a particularly rich vein of form at present - top of the league and banging in the goals. Sevilla have been one of the most improved teams in Europe over the past 2/3 years. They’ve won 2 uefa cups in the last 2 years and also play an excellent brand of attacking, pass and move football.

Now I accept Manchester United have a larger following than Arsenal in Ireland but there’s other factors to take into account. There’s the neutral viewers, like myself and raven, who would have preferred to watch the Arsenal game.

Then there’s also the fact that it’s a 6 game group and Arsenal and Sevilla are the top 2 seeds with Slavia Prague and Steaua Bucharest making up the rest of their group. It seems the latter two sides are relatively weak so why didn’t RTE decide to show both Arsenal/Sevilla games and then show Manchester United on the other 4 match days?

This satisfies the neutral as well, I presume, as the Manchester United supporters who’d get to see 4 out of 6 games on RTE.

Instead they decide to pass up the most attractive game to show Manchester United away from home (where they’ve been poor in Europe for the past few seasons and were again last night) at the third seeds in the group. Bizarre.
