TV Licence

Looks like I’ve got out of buying one of these this year. Basically, in our old rented gaff we got a letter threatening legal action unless one of us bought a TV licence so I stumped up for one in the end. We moved to a new gaff during the summer and our old landlord passed on some mail to us recently and it was from An Post threatening legal action against me for not renewing the licence. I’m a bit skint so I said I’d chance my arm in saying I didn’t think I would be required to purchase one and sent them this:

I am emailing you in connection with some TV licence notices that my previous landlord passed onto me, namely a final notice and a legal notice.

I have moved to a new address and no longer live at the previous licence address.

The circumstances around which I purchased a TV licence at my old address were as follows. I was part of a house share and each person was designated responsibility to settle different bills, be they ESB, Gas, NTL or whatever.

I was assigned TV and so paid for NTL and the annual licence. However, I didn’t own the TV in the house and didn’t bring it with me when I moved. As a result, I don’t believe I am required to obtain another licence.

TV licence implications wouldn’t have been something I considered when moving house so I was surprised to receive the correspondence, especially the threat of legal action.

Clearly, I don’t want to pay for a licence when I don’t believe my present circumstances necessitate me purchasing one. I would appreciate a reply in response to this email to confirm you have received it and to acknowledge that there is no basis to pursue legal action against me.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Regards,
Bandage

I was expecting them to come back to me and request my current address so they could transfer the licence to there. However, I received this cheap and cheerful reply from them today:

Dear Bandage,

I have deleted that account.

Regards,
Gerry

Result.

I was thinking there that anyone could chance sending a similar letter even if they haven’t moved house and have a go at getting away without paying for a licence. Donating to RTE seriously pisses me off given some of the dicks they employ so I’m happy enough about this. Hopefully, they won’t target my new neighbourhood though!

I moved into a new gaff a month ago, I’ve no interest in stumping up for it either although we’ll probably have to in the end

Amazing how we all look down our noses at students these days but there are certain things which make us switch straight back into student mode

I hear ya. The current shit going on in the economy has an affect on me too. Getting rubbish bonuses, pay increases frozen, prices still going up everywhere and then you get a TV licence notice in the post. Fook that.

Got this yesterday.

Hi Thrawneen

I have deleted the account in your name.

K Curran

160 is some cheek anyway. Why can’t fucking NTL and SKY stump up that, lord knows I’ve paid them enough over the last few years.

We’re looking at you here puke…

I think it’s great that they address you with your TFK usernames

Ive heard all the excuses but none of them work.

I happen to know Gerry and Mr. Curran are members of this forum.

In college the fellah called to the door one time. One of the boys opened it and we had it very well planned. He wa very polite and told yer man he lived here and his name was “John Ryan” but unfotunately he had no ID. We went through the whole process of all the different letters culminating in a legal notice for “John Ryan” to attend Limerick District Court. We were just about to move on for the summer and collected up the letters and showed them to all visitors who wanted a laugh.

What kind of mentality have you fookers got?
You avail of Radio/TV services provided by the national broadcaster and expect them for free?
High levels of education(allegedly)high paying jobs, minimal effort at same-if the level of work-time posting is to be believed and you expect ordinary tax compliant citizens to carry the load.
I feel like alerting my uncle in nPost about this disgraceful show of duty dereliction.
Rant over…

Boooo Boxtyeater.

Someone as ancient as Boxty has an uncle who’s still working?

Is Boxyeater from Leitrim? I think relationships get a bit mixed up up there. Uncle, brother, boyfriend, girlfriend, aunt, lines are all very blurred.

Accoeding to thelatest ESRI report, there are no vegitarians in Leitrim. This is an awful slight onthe quality of carrot available Today.

Quality. We did something similar in one of my old gaffe’s.

Two words, Fair City; reason enough to pay your licence.

The inspector dropped some notice in the box today. Says aerial observed and will be calling back in ten days. Says no record of my address. I was at home all day the cunt didn’t even press the intercom. Il have my license ready for the cunt alright and a message to upgrade their fucking system and go after the likes of @Copper_pipe and @anon61878697,!

Is your name on the notification?

Why go after @Copper_pipe? His parents probably have the licence

So 10 years ago @Bandage was ducking out of paying for his tv license so he could go to Wrestlemania?
