TV Rights, best avoided

If Gaelic games are a joke because they haven’t spread internationally (Ireland is a very small state which not that long ago had under 3 million people living in it), heaven knows what that makes American football, which comes from the country with by far the biggest cultural influence worldwide and which has completely failed to take root anywhere outside America and for the rest of the world exists purely as a minority TV spectacle during the winter.

I definitely don’t think that’s true, I suppose it depends what metric you are judging it. And where you stand on the split season

TV ratings
Marketability
Participation stalled

I’d give the GGA credit in that they were far better on ladies than football in particular. That advantage is shrinking now.

The GGA’s international efforts have fallen flat in their face. The emigrant impact is quickly going away too.

Why do you call the GAA the GGA?

Is it some sort of social tick ?

Gaelic Games Association is always my take out.

Its a pity there is only one of these every 4 years or so

The GGA was formed by an anti semite

For most of its history it had xenophobic rules

Is the least diverse sport in Ireland

Is it any wonder it hasnt spread abroad

Never mind not spreading abroad, one of its main games isnt played in the northern half of the country

It’s two sports. You don’t get more diverse than that.

Sure by that metric you could say Gaelic football is watched globally. American football has a niche, minority viewership, few people watch it outside the Superbowl, people mainly watch the Superbowl for the half time act, and few people know outside America much about the mechanics of the game. It’s mainly watched for spectacle of Americana in the same way WWF wrestling is watched.

As a sport it has been an utter failure in terms of participation outside America which is a damning indictment given America has by far the biggest cultural influence of any country worldwide, ie. American football, if it was any use as a sport, should be dominating the world. Ireland doesn’t have 1% of America’s worldwide cultural impact so obviously sports indigenous to Ireland were never going to take root anywhere else - if association football was our indigenous sport it wouldn’t have taken root elsewhere either.

Baseball is also an abject failure in terms of spreading worldwide.

The reason American football and baseball have failed to spread is fairly simple - both are shit sports.

Your sport is run by fucking gangsters and is corrupt from top to bottom.

The NFL gets hundreds of thousands attending in London annually and only played their first regular season game there 15 years ago.

Compare and contrast to the GGA. Despite the shear number of Irish living there for decades, nobody cares.

The GGA is historically run by sectarian xenophobes.

The grassroots similar.
